Hello all,

I conducted a private trade with a fellow who was hard set on trading his AK for a pistol this week. He inquired about a HK USP 40 I had listed locally for sale/trade. This gentleman was pre-apologetic and told me "It's made in China, but it shoots good". I informed the man that I think I could look past the fact that he was offering me a Chinese AK for my USP. Well.......how do you think i did?:eyebulge:

If you traded that for a pistol then you did very well.

I had no clue that any standard AK was worth 2K or above. WOW. Learn something new everyday.

BTW, great trade.

I think you need to have the guy in the middle as your avatar. Maybe even get Jen to let you change your screenname to Norincoburglar.

You did quite excellent my friend. Polytech rifles are some of the nicer AKs available:

Seeing them up here in the MA area for $1700-$1800 is pretty much the norm for pricing in a ban state.

This person is on another planet with his price, but they are sought after by collectors and AK connoisseurs alike:

You truely have one of these moments on your hands:

Well done Sir. I sold this Legend to a buddy for 2K, over a year ago. He didn't bat an eye at the price.

You obviously took advantage of his ignorance, and you made out like a thief.

Interesting dichotomy.

When a seller sells for less than market, the buyer is praised as a "winner" - the seller is stupid.

When the seller sells for more than market, the seller is a rip-off artist and the buyer is a victim.

Reminds me of the proprietor of a gunshop I used to frequent...

He would take literally *anything* in trade, consider any offer and had tons of old stuff® to dig through.

He would flat out tell you, "If I own it, it's gold ~ If you own it, it's shit." :D

I did well there and had endless amusement, along with a running credit account for like 5 years.

if the guy who traded his ole ak for a nice pistol is happy then all is good. i saw a guy trade a pristine garand for a new Remington bolt action & he was perfectly happy. i knew another guy who gave his grandfathers springfield 03 , his grandfather was a Marine at Guadalcanal and this was his issue rifle, to a school for a display item, about made me sick.
so if both adult parties are happy its all good.

Were you able to make a NCIC's or some other determination to confirm the rifle was not a "hotter" deal than you expected? I am always suspicious of someone selling or trading anything far below the value of that item. Feigning ignorance of its true value is a valid ploy to consummate the deal. Now he owns a fully legal firearm and you own what? Probably an over reaction. I doubt you have anything to worry about.
