Been kicking it around for a bit, was wondering what you all think about this rifle and I have noticed it is offered with a wood stock which is nice, so what are your thoughts

I might be considering one myself. rimfirecentral.com is the place to go for all things rimfire.
A lot of the guys on RFC get carried away with claimed accuracy. They all shoot .5" groups at 50yds. This really doesn't help the new guys when their rifle can't come anywhere near that. They always think they got a bad rifle.

It's looking more like common accuracy of around 1"@ 50yds is what the RAR will do.

It's not a vintage Marlin 25N that shoots tacks off the target board at 50yds  but I've been considering one too. And no, the Marlin isn't for sale. (Just so people don't think I'm being a dick, the Marlin thing is an inside joke, it's just an old 25N my dad bought the year I was born and Countershot, another buddy, and I used to shoot tacks with it at the local range growing up)

How many .22's do you need?

Doesn't EVERYBODY already own a 10/22?

It's thinking back on how much fun that rifle was is why I'm looking to buy a .22 bolt gun

I have a .22 bolt gun, which I'll probably keep, since it was the first gun I bought over a 4473.

Don't think I've fired it in two decades.
Not that I don't like it, but just no time or motivation to shoot .22 LR bolt gun.

From J.C. Penney in 1979.

i like it, the bolt guns have always been more fun to me, 10/22s are great and tons of fun but nothing like popping the tacs off the target at 50yards just for fun. i find the ruger is reasonably priced and have considered getting the thredded version maybe as my first suppressor host, i dont know if its worth it but it certainly sounds like fun.

The Ruger Guys on the Ruger board think that the American is a much better shooter than the 77/22 at a much better price.

I have topped my RAR in .22LR with a 3-9x40mm Bushnell scope I had laying around.

It even gets pretty decent groups at 100yds. with HV ammo.

ETA: mine is the rifle, not the carbine.

I bought the rifle yesterday. Went ahead and bought the standard full size version. I got to say I do like it, nice trigger, holds well and it's comfortable. Looking forward to puttin some optics on it and taking it to the range

I put a 77/22 barrel on my 10-22, best of both worlds! Don't know about hitting tacks but it sure is fun nailing flies that land on the target at 50 yds. Prior to installing the barrel I did all the action mods that are suggested on RFC and they did make a huge difference in both the feel and accuracy.

A. What's need got to do with anything? At present, I have a couple dozen .22's

B. I have ten of them (10/22's) in various flavors and vintages.

As far as RAR accuracy is concerned, I have an 8334 model RAR, which everyone calls a "Predator" because it looks just like the Ruger American Predator in centerfire. A week or two ago, I had it at the range when a buddy of mine showed up with a $2200.00 Anschutz .22LR. Gary (my buddy) and I wound up shooting the RAR and Anschutz for group size at 50 yards, using some Federal Gold Medal Match ammo, and my $306 Ruger shot the same 3/8" group that Gary's Anschutz did. It shot almost that well a week later with CCI Std. Velocity as it did with the Federal GM Match. My buddy was completely flabbergasted that my Ruger would shoot head to head with his Anschutz. This week, Gary bought a RAR Predator for himself.
