View Full Version : Steps to an SBR

September 03, 2016, 15:04
So i finally have most parts in place to start assembling an SBR FAL.

complete DSA 11" OSW front end
DSA alloy lower converted to para with an ACR stock
DSA type 1 forged receiver
NOS Aussie carrier
Still have to acquire bolt, springs and a couple other things.

Keeping parts at different locations so there is no "intent" problems

Sooo... Is the process:
formation of a trust
Fill out a Form 1,
send it in
wait ?

Trust or personal. Only difference is basically you can hand it down in a trust without another stamp. You will have to submit finger print cards either way now. Pics too. Then you have to send LEO a form. I would do a trust. Due to the fact that you can have you're wife on it to be in possession and pass to a beneficiary though an home grown SBR is not really valuable. A trust can cost Anywhere from $150-400. Waiting times on form 1s are not that bad compared to 4s

Also with a trust you don't have to resend finger print cards if you buy another NFA toy within 2 years.

So with a trust i would file a form 1?

Yes. Form 1. FYI, it's a 5 month wait right now before you get the stamp.

The NFA dealers I use say the wait time is going to be at least 1 year
A lot of people went the Trust route just before the 41F ruling

I just had a March 17th submission come back on September 1st. 168 days. It's only going to get worse from there.

So an interesting question ( one with lots of gray area). What parts can i aquire before the stamp gets back? What all parts could be in one place without treading close to the "intent" area?

I would just build a pistol for the time being if you want to check it out and convert to an SBR once you get the stamp.

I just received a stamp for a SBR last week. Form 1 signed and mailed on February 20. Approved on August 15. Six months. With a trust.
