A big thanks to member Near Sighted Sniper for the Garand. She's a beautiful six digit Springfield. Now I have one for each of my boys. Also pairs nicely with my Remington Rand of similar vintage.

Gorgeous! Is that a lead-dipped heel, or just the lighting?

Think it's just the lighting. Would it be marked beneath the wood line?

It's all the metal, usually at an angle. Here's my 6-digit, receiver is gray zinc park but the lead-annealed area is more black:

I wanted the contrast, I got it!

I see a BM-59 Clip Release. Are they the same as the M-1 model?

If you're talking about my picture, look again - there's a magazine in it as well! Shuff's Parkerizing does great work, stock is a 'Tipo 2' birch I had The Stock Emporium modify for BM59SL service.

It is not.
I'm glad you are happy with it, RB. Enjoy it.

This one also happens to be a Letterkenney Army Depot rebuild

Reminded of something every day. I've forgotten about lead dipping, do you know what years this was common on? I want to check some of mine out. I guess once parkerized (refinishing efforts) it would be difficult to discern?

Just a note, the OP's picture doesn't show the heal up against the wood (might just be the picture). I've always be told that one should have the receiver against the stock, is this correct? I believe for accuracy in addition to prevent further cracking.

The heel is up against the stock. I actually shot her last Sunday. Very accurate rifle. First few shots to the right of bullseye at 100yds. Couple clicks and dead center bullseye. She's a keeper for sure.:)

Did you get it back yet? I know Tim has been CRAZY busy lately, went from 14-day turnaround to 90+ days when all those patrs kits hit!

When I had my M1 'updated' into a BM59, I had Shuff parkerize it with zinc (instead of manganese) so the dark heel would show up - it's more obvious in person than the photo above.

I love the way these guns shoot!

Beautiful Garand and the 1911A1 is right at home there. Love the shoulder holsters with the pistols.
