Just wanted to give a quick shout out to our very own Flypaper for his excellent work on providing some very nicely crafted FAL wood. After putting a finish on this stock and pistol grip set, no further fitting was required. The tang slot was perfect, buttplate cut was perfect, recoil tube hole was drilled at the perfect angle, and the sling swivel slot was also perfect. I was very surprised and extremely satisfied with all of these traits. You can buy his sets with confidence that they adhere to a high standard of quality. Not to mention they are dead sexy

Pic of swivel shows the buttplate at an odd angle, it actually fits very well and uniformly all the way around.

What is the final finish?

Finished this one out with 6 coats of boiled linseed oil. May do a few more as this wood soaked it up pretty darn quick.

That really turned out nice... One thing that I noticed, when I put mineral spirits on stocks to show color, it's always much lighter than the BLO finish.

I'm not sure that it's lighter, but the blo does give it a more yellow hue. I think tung oil would come out closer to what you see with the mineral spirits.

You can sun darken BLO to get a darker look.
