Boggles the mind actually. Is the collectors market for Valmets really that good? The Fins need to send us their old parts guns soon.

The market for 7.62x39 Valmets has always been strong (especially milled rec guns) but lately it has been crazy. About 6 weeks ago a fixed-tube 76 (stamped) brought $9.1k!

The only things that I can think of driving up the value are the fixed tubular stock, bicycle grip, and cheese grater forearm!!! :)

The only thing scarcer than a bicycle-grip 62 is a bicycle-grip 62 with no grip cracks! And this one checks out!

....and when was the last time you had the opportunity to see/hold one at the retail level? I know of 1 "stocking" dealer in the last 10yrs that could keep a fair representation of Valmets on his shelves.....his prices were sky high then...otherwise he would have been sold out in a couple days. He bought many high end collections and even that well eventually runs dry. Last time I checked he has 0.

Anyone have import #'s on this one? I'm guessing it's waaaaaaay scarcer than a G FAL. Probably by a 10 to 1 ratio.

So the fundamental question is: Is a 7.62x39 bullet launcher intrinsically worth that much money?

M-62s have generally been available though not always on an auction site. That isn't to say they're common but in the past if you've had cash and were willing to comb auctions, forums, and posted WTB in classifieds, you could generally turn one up sooner or later and it was going to run you $3-4.5k...but these auctions lately...off the charts

Similar phenomenon to NDM-86s.

True...but the G series FALs and the 1962 Santa Fe G3s are in a different league than a rare semi automatic sporter with civilian and import markings like this.

I think that is also partially due to the popularity of the FAL/HK rifles as compared to a relatively obscure AK-variant.

IMO some of the craziest are the KBI SVDs that now regularly bring over $10-11k when found..neat guns but not for that kind of coin.

It's like I said over on the AK files, people are looking to invest their money into something substantial. All perban Guns are going up, some more than others.
The Valmet is seen as one of the highest quaility AK's on the Planet. I'm glad I acquired my Valmet rifles when I did. the only thing close is a Galil and they are heading north as well.

One year ago these were selling for $1000.00 less on GB.

One big factor in a handful of these higher-priced auctions (that is often overlooked by sellers) is hi-res, images of the guns at different angles...brings a lot of buyers to the table.

Friend of mine has one similar to that one except his is in 7.62X51. Same guy has a case of original AR-10(waffle pattern) mags.

Nice rifle but I'd rather have two galil's for that kind of money. I never cared for the stock or pistol grips on that one.
