Well it looks like Magpul is finally making a 20 round mag for thoes of us who like or perfer a 20 round mag in our AK's. Looks like it should be out the Summer of 2016.

Seems that I remember AKOU giving the Magpul mag an excellent review. They're pretty tough on their tests as I recall.~ss

Issue is they are in the same bunch as Tapco etc ..No metal in them ..So locking lugs etc just plastic ..So fine for the rang but that is about it

I rather have the guy on the AK files chop down a metal mag to 20 rounds or pay the money for a good Hungrian tanker mag ..But if the price is right sure I might get a few as range mags or sighting in mags

I'm sure they will, the new 30 rounders have the steel-reinforced locking lugs so I'm sure these will also. Also at 12.95Ea I'm sure I can give a few a try and wont cry if they dont work out at that price.

Cool. I hate banging up nice mags at the range when I fumble a mag change.

I would not be sure the 10 rounders and the new ak74 30th don't

Esp if the price is 10 or 12

If they do they take the market

Magpul doesn't make junk, steel or no steel.

exactly as long as the fit and function are good your good to go. i mean really your not driving tent stakes with them. given a choice i'll take a steel mag any day but i have used tapco and magpul mags with no issues at all

If things go pear-shaped, you may end up losing mags in the heat of the moment. I'd cry less if they were plastic mags that cost little and may not have been good for almost the life of the weapon, like a good steel mag.

At least Magpul listens to its customers. The newest AK mags are the Generation 3 ones, WITH metal. This is a direct result of customer feedback to them.

Whether the 20 round ones are the Gen 3 ones remains to be seen, but I bet they are.

Yea, third generation is great and all....But how long are they ?

I really like Magpul's 3rd generation 20rd AR mags,,,But the damn things are 3/4" longer than the earlier ones or 20rd alum mags...So they dont fit in any of my standard 20rd mag pouches.

Operators that prefer velcro pouches, YMMV :whistling:

Personally I am waiting for the new '90' round drum to come out that is in the testing phase now.

Well I guess I will have to re think my mag purchase from Magpul. I sent an e-mail asking about the use of the use of steel-reinforced locking lugs on the new 10 & 20 round mags that they are releasing Summer 2016 and was told they were not going to have the steel-reinforced locking lugs? -CENSORED--CENSORED--CENSORED- are they thinking? I just cant understand why they would go back with a plastic lug instead of learning from their first screwup with the 30 rounders.

This was the response I got below...

Correct the new 20 round and the 10 round AK mags do not have the steel reinforcing on the front and back.

I see them a fair bit for $35-$45 apiece.

Its ridiculous. I'm glad I got mine way back when....$15 for a 3 pack with mag pouch.....I wish I'd have bought a LOT more, I mainly used 30's at the time and considered the 20 rounders bench mags.

That said, for my serious SHTF, I have a bunch of steel set aside.....BUT....

I am going to be getting a bunch of magpuls to accompany my tapco smoothsides I got for $4.99 apiece. IF...it ever came to SHTF, you may lose mags. I'd just as soon have a box of 50 semi-disposable magazines than lose a quarter of my steel stockpile.

I've never had a tapco break and I've abused them......I won't say they won't. I won't even try to say Tapco is a great mag......but they generally don't break unless they're IN the gun, and.....in real SHTF you're going to run through a mag pretty fast.

The newer black finished Korean 20 rnd mags are getting good reviews now..

They seem to be much better built than the "gray" ones that came in during sandy hook.

They are dirt cheap as well and all metal..Id grab those before i bought an AK mag with plastic locking tabs just due to never having to worry about snapping one

and if there was ever a total BAN replacing a broken plastic mag might not be an option !. :O
