View Full Version : Nickel bolts?

I'm looking a a possible AK purchase if things go well for me. Atlantic seems to be one of the only places that has any AKs in stock aside from century builds and Yugos.
I've noticed that many of the AKs on Atlantics sight have " Nickel Plated Bolt & Carrier"
Whats up with that? Its not original? why would any one nickle plate a bolt group aside from aesthetics?

Perhaps to make something with a lot of use appear new and shiney?

Nickle just seems like a poor/odd choice. Is there something I'm missing here?
the description clearly states Nickel, not nickel boron, or hard chrome.

Were those polish bolts Nickel? I had thought they were just bare from use.cleaning or chromed?
I really wondering how Nickle plate would actually hold up, and affect function.

They are bare.. I have a couple.. But they were bare from the point of production not via use. They are polished. The nickel is probably just a way to reproduce the look and be somewhat corrosion resistant. I don't know about the lubricity of a nickel coating if there is any benefit or not.
