OK, question for the group.....I have a 1917 s/n'd Springfield with a 1917 barrel date. Clearly a low number rifle. It's still in one piece after 99 years. Shoot it?

This one is my third. I have 2 03-a3's, a Remington and a Smith Corona.

Mine is still wet behind the ears #1400XXX. Receiver born 1931, HS 5-44 barrel and Lyman 57 sight. If it weren't for my repro 03-A4, this would be my favorite shooter.

I traded into a low number unmolested or refitted '03 Springfield manufactured in July of 1914 last year. It has a mirror bright bore with strong rifling although the outside is obviously oxidized. I shoot this rifle all the time although I do slightly download the 155 grain A-MAX bullets to about 2400 fps, but that's mostly due to a crack developing in the wrist behind the receiver  The cocking knob is likely a later replacement. I didn't mean to "balloon" the thread with these gigantic pics.

Just think, the way these old girls shoot is unbelievable. They keep up with and out shoot rifles 85 years newer. so much for new technology, the old craftsman that manufactured them were a credit to their trade.

I have a Springfield 03 receiver Sn==1302 It had to have been made in the first few Months production and was most certainly a Rod Bayonet gun in cal 30-03,,,I wish someone would make the proper barrel and bayonet parts so I could remake it to look original .. No way I could ever afford an Original .

03,s are my Favorite Bolt gun !!
Last one I got was a Mk-I 1918 with the cut for the Pederson device ...

Came into a couple of NOS walnut stocks and hand guards for the 03A3.
Brand new, no finish on them at all.
Not marked in any way.

Wonder how I should finish them, light or dark???

And yepper, love my own 03's and 03A3's.
