Anyone know anything about an A.D. Swenson custom 1911. I think I have one in my hands but I need second opinions.

His name will be on the frame. Post some pics.

If you can't post pics, at least tell us what is stamped on the frame, and is the trigger guard squared?

Yep...if I remember correctly, the trigger guards were squared and they are usually sporting S&W adjustable revolver sights, milled into the slide, too.

His name A.D.Swenson will be stamped on the right side of the frame. If the Gardena is missing from the stamping, it is a later gun. True work of art they are, he was quite anal about fit and finish.

yes stamped on right of frame and left side of slide he also used adjustable Micro rear sights and a large front sight post ejection port will be lowered, barrel bushing should be tight should be some metal welded into the left side of the slide midpoint of the ejection port to tighten barrel to slide fit, and of course some work on the trigger. not all guns were refinished I have had one since 1983 believe his son worked at STI/SVI about 10 yrs ago

Armand Swenson was a true craftsman of the 1911. Spent a lot of my youth drooling over his work in all the '80s period gun rags..A dealer friend acquired one of his masterpieces back in the late '80s I was fortunate enough to shoot..Truly a work of art, that shot as good as it looked.

GB, glad you recognized my ribbing on the original post was good natured on my part.

You've been here a short time, do you need some assistance in posting pictures?

I did a little reading on Swenson. It seems some of his earlier work didn't have his name on the side. The link above is for my auction.

Good looking piece and it sold quick. He was considered the godfather of the customized 1911's back in the day.
