Fellow on a local gun forum has an unused ~ 1967 S&W Model 19-3 2.5" for sale ... or trade for, among other things, an AR15. I have an AR available for trading fodder: Should I do it?

S&W will never make any Model 19's like that ever again. OTOH AR-15's are all over the place and you can always replace the one you are ready to trade on the M19 quite easily.

As all of the other posters to this thread have said, just do it.

And so it goes.

Easy decision.
Only problem with it is the guilt associated with shooting the snot out of a safe queen.

I'd make that trade - a used AR for a collectable S&W is a no brainer.

Every man needs a Model 19. They are the Combat Magnum after all.

I have one. You need one. Why don't you have one already??

Had a number of them. Carried one while on the Warren, MI PD reserves. Nickel, TH, TT, WH, RR. Bought it new for $200. Qualified distinguished expert with it. They were just ubiquitous revolvers back then, just like $350 Pythons. Who knew things would get this crazy?

I would hit that. My snub 19-3 does not look nearly that nice but then I bought it to actually carry and shoot. Point out to the seller that the box says $200, you might want to ask for some boot on his end.:D

Dam that's a nice smith and with the short barrel no less. I'd definitely jump on it.

Unless you have some ultra rare 1965 SP1 or something do it

PS go easy on the heavy duty 357 mag loads ...

What is that pistol worth? I have one just like it, only with NO scratches, marks, dings, gobs, rust, etc.. I bought it back in 1993, NIB, for my Babyluv because I was offered it at $250, from a friend. He had only owned it for a few weeks and never fired it. It came with a holster and a speedloader ,but neither have ever touched the pistol. It remains a safe queen to this day. I thought about sending it to S&W or a reliable pistolsmith to get it rebarreled to a 4" but others (BCRS from subguns) have poo-pooed that idea when I discussed having it changed.

I don't plan on selling it, it's hers after all, but what is the current value on it?

TIA,
Jarhead

Among enthusiastic, knowledgeable S&W fans, such as those on the S&W Forum (home of the S&W Collectors Association), that gun above, a 19-3 with box and papers, would likely sell quickly from $850 to $1,000 any day of the week. With S&W, condition is first and the earlier variant the better.

Right now, 2-1/2 inchers are hottest, followed by 4 inchers.

Thanks Brother Buff. I appreciate the help.

Along with the 66 the 19 snub is the coolest of pocket guns. Perfect when a J-frame is not quite enough.

A K frame pocket gun? Well, maybe if you have big pockets or are carrying in a coat with big pockets....

I always thought that my now long gone Model 13 three inch round butt .357 was a slightly better carry piece that the adjustable sight Model 19. It shot to point of aim with both 158 grain JHP .357 loads and the 158 grain +P LSWCHP .38 Special "FBI Load".

And so it goes.

Ran across a minor variant of a 19 last year. I know this guy does wheel guns, really drives 'em around. Quite something to see these days. So I sort of shoved it along his way.

I think he likes it.

I have a 2" model 15 that did coat pocket duty years back. Target sights and target hammer do hang up on cloth though.

Fat guys like me wear baggy pants that easily hold a 2 1/2" 19. Modify the pockets and you can drop in a Sig 226. Never did like IWB holsters.

Now to hunt down the consolation prize!

Yeah, always wanted a Model 19 2 1/2", but never found anything except a beater for $350, a lot of money then. Had to settle for a 2 1/2" Model 66 instead.

Sorry you didn't get that M19 Mark, it looked like a beauty.
