Well hello everyone!

I'm sitting on a chamber pot full of 7.62x39mm ammunition left over from the SKS's I sold off a year or two ago. I need something to shoot this through! So I've had my eye on an AK pattern gun for some time now.

It seems that there is a company making an AMD-65 style rifle called Clearview Investments. It seems these are going for about $550 new, which I think is a good price and the guns just look so cool and unique. Here is one for sale on Gunbroker:

So are these builds garbage? Are they junk? Will they break down on me and fail? This will be a range gun to supplement my PTR-91, which shoots rather expensive 7.62x51mm rounds. I like the fact that an AK shoots less expensive ammo that still hits well out to 300 meters.

What do you guys know about these AMD-65 build guns? Like I said they look soooooo cool, and the price is reasonable. But, if they're some low-quality thrown together junk build that jam up all the time, I'll pass.

Let me know guys! :D

Not a big AK fan. I'll probably SBR the only AK I have and it's a pistol. That stock wouldn't come close to what I'm thinking. I look at the under folders

Check out a DDI stamped AK for a little more or a WASR for the same price. Atlantic Firearms is a good retailer to peruse. AMD-65 is a niche gun. Odd stock and won't take AKM parts/add ons. Looks odd with a 4 inch break on a 16" barrel.

This build is an amd-65 kit on a Hungarian receiver but using an American made barrel that's incorrect for the build. I'd pass unless you're looking for a plinker.

Those are kit builds on US receivers and US barrels... For the about the same money you can get a WASR which is built in Romania with original receiver and barrel from Atlantic Firearms. Atlantic checks all of their rifles for canted sights and so on before shipping out. The current WASRs are generally pretty good quality, years ago they could be spotty.

This is true. Made from the leftovers of hungarian rifles and kits imported a number of years ago. Dont know who built them for clearview. Havent heard any negative reviews on them though. If you like the look, go for it. They are priced decently for an entry level rifle.

Another option is to cruise local shops for a Chineese gun. The MAK90 keeps ticking. Occasionally people put them up for short money not realizing they have a nice piece. This one is $700, but I've seen people scoop up an MAK sold by an unwitting pawn dealer for $400 on occasion:

Local gun shop had a MAk90 that came with a cracked stock. The owner tried to sell it to me for $300 and I turn it down like an idiot. This was about three years ago.

There are better options out there. I'd recommend that you keep looking.

Lots of great info available on sister site AK files.
