Posted over at the CMP sight but figured I would share with any M1 loving Fal guys...

Picked up a few cmp field grades recently through mail order. This one had a very sharp dark black finish on all the receiver parts. Matched with a high grade stock (also had black metal) for a pretty cool and unique looking M1. Can't wait to get to the range. Have a like new GI barrel waiting but want to see how she shoots now before changing out.

All metal is nice black in color. Different than the others in my collection.

Not that I know of. Greek Black is more like a thicker surface finish almost like paint.

Shot it yesterday. Hit some Xs but need to do some more stock work to make it more consistent.

I had to keep going and adjusting my DGR stock. The forward tenon on the front hand add needed the shoulder set back and a little clearancing on the rear handguard

The stock looks really beautiful. Let us know how it shoots. On a side note, your rifle was made in August 1941. http://fulton-armory.com/faqs/m1g-faqs/tea/m1serial.htm

It was a high grade dupage trading stock.

Thing shoots great. Got my first match with it coming up in March.

That is a fine looking rifle. My Garand isn't sexy like yours, but she really shines on the range. I hope that yours will shoot as well as mine.

I just picked up a Garand parts kit with a unissued VAR barrel. Heard they are pretty accurate so I may slap that in an extra receiver and see how it does.

How do you slap a barrel into a receiver? Could you post a video demonstration please?

Lol. Some tape and gum should do the trick. Ok bad choice of words. :)

It's funny though. Have had some that I needed a cheater piece of pipe and almost bounced on to break the barrel free while others unscrewed with much less drama.. :)

Then there is the debate over use of anti seize compound or not on the M1..
