Good looking rifle, nice move with the AR mag conversion.
Always wanted one of these but not bad enough to pony up that kind of jack. Very glad I didn't in light of all the problems that have come up over time.

Have the same setup on a 10/22. Aside from not having ready access to the mag release and bolt hold open, it works stellar.

You'll be amazed how clean the interior of the receiver stays.

What kind of problems?

HK's magical plastic hasn't turned out to be the miracle material they hoped it would. The guns point of impact can change dramatically as they heat up and the trunnions can actually become lose in the receiver over time.
There's a big stink in the german army about it with the gov't giving HK the stink eye.
Basically, HK built a disposable rifle.

A friend of mine in local LE PD complained to me back in 2006-2007 about the department's G36's and the department ditched them and switched to M4's not long after. After that, any inclination to acquire a G36 of any flavor evaporated with me.
When the very first SL8 showed up at SHOT back in 1998 or so I questioned the prospect of using plastic for so much of the gun, seemed like a bad idea but I'm no engineer so what do I know. We ordered a couple and just about had to give them away but one of the guys who bought one (my Dr., in fact) scoped one up and was very happy with it. Of course, it's not select fire and he don't dump mags either.

There are a lot of threads on this on the HKPro Forums:

http://www.hkpro.com/forum/hk-long-gun-talk/202192-hk-g36-issue-solved.html
http://www.hkpro.com/forum/hk-long-gun-talk/226358-g36-no-issues-soldiers-newest-inspection-report-said.html

The claims are many: it's the rifle, it's the ammo, and most interestingly the claim that the same result is seen in AR type rifles. The problem is supposed to occur with ambient temperatures on the order of 120F, accompanied by 300 round multiple mag dumps. I don't think I will ever deal with those circumstances, so I'm not worried about it.

My remade SL8 is off the scale for cool factor. The sights are not set up for match accuracy. It is completely reliable. I'm glad I had it changed to G36E configuration.
