So, I don't own a 10/22... Laugh away...
I've got a buddy that has a near new ss 10/22, it sits in a fancy camo stock, comes with some ammo, another stock, some random mags, and a cheaper scope. He says he wants to trade for a 870 12ga. I have a one owner mid 70's wingmaster w/ fixed mod choke, full vent bbl, in high gloss walnut furniture. What's the consensus? A trade up or down? Thanks.

Thoughts....

I will buy your 870. You just described the finest shotgun ever made. We can work out an equitable price that you will like :)

A 10-22? Only ever owned one. 20 years ago. The plastic rotary mag was a POS. Never liked one since. I would give you $50 for it since it is stainless. If it functions I can leave it out in the tractor shed for varmints. Over $50? Pass.

IMHO....YMMV

You pretty much cemented my thoughts... I figure I can always pick up a 10/22, that wingmaster just gets better. The action is smooth to say the least... Actually, since my pops handed down the wingmaster I haven't brought my belg a5 to the range since... Thanks for the check.. I'll just keep saving for a .308 bolt... Who needs a .22anyways...

A wingmaster from that time period is the best pump gun ever produced. And if you want to screw chokes into it you can simply buy another barrel. I just sold over 2 dozen guns. I kept 2 .22 rifles, and a 10-22 wasn't one of them. Oh, but my first 870 that I bought new in 1993, yea I kept it. Tell your friend thanks but no thanks.

This^^^. I've owned 2 10/22s. The 1st one worked but was an erratic shooter and the 2nd one would hardly function. You're wise to hang onto the 870!

Wow. All the 10/22 haters.

My 10/22 works great.

A run-of-the-mill 10/22 is only worth $190 brand new.
If it comes with real .22 LR ammo, it could be worth millions.
There are a few aftermarket 10/22 mags that are quite good.
Many aftermarket 10/22 mags are pure shit.

A 70's era Wingmaster in decent condition is probably worth $250 - $400 depending on condition and configuration.

Thanks very much for all the input. That 870 is going to stay right where she is. Most of my questions here have been about my Rhodie. I love how the knowledge spreads the gamut here. You guys rock.

Only ever owned one 10/22 (pictured below) and I got it on sale. This model has the heavy barrel and a custom Hogue Over-molded Stock. After guidance/counsel from Gunplumber to upgrade the trigger to a Volquartsen, it does really really well. I bought it for the younger of the yutz to learn on. It is a fun as he!! little shooter.

Your supposed to trade up, so don't even think about it.

 I take the female members of my survival group (they fly in from tejas) out for regular sniper training at 300+ yards all the time. I have to wash sh!t off the Hogue Stock all the time though! :?

I use a old rare magazine called Bingham Taylor, It holds 25 or 30 rounds and uses an adaptor in place of the square hole the 10 round mag.

Started using this kind of mag back in the early 1980's but ya dont see them in stores anymore only on forums and maybe GB.

Not my pics just stole them from the web.
