How is the optical sight for CQB compared to iron sights or a red dot? Does the magnification and scope setup make a negative difference? FYI I would hate a 4x ACOG for CQB which I have some training with.

Can you shoot it left handed, in right hand eject mode, without getting brass in the face? Are there any add ons to mitigate this?

How are the 42 round waffle mags compared to 30 round STANAG?

Do they like crappy steel case ammo? (which I would likely not use)

The AUG optics are really similar to acog as far as distance. The 1.5 having a better / wider fov. than the 3.0. The 3.0 better to medium range.
I piggybacked a red dot to the optic on mine and am very happy.
I have one with 3.0 aug and a fastfire / one with an acog - rmr.
You can position yourself to shoot LH w/ RH bolt however it is very awkward there.
The bolts change out very quickly and are not expensive. $250.00 factory AUG /
$125.00 rat werkz.
42 round mags are no problem.
Mine eat everything so far.

What Paul said.
I have an Aimpoint T-1 on mine. Works fine for what I do with my rifle.

Well,

I like the donut of death on my AUG but would never had paid for it if it hadnt come with the rifle. If I was gonna shoot CQB Id get the 16 barrel and Aimpoint.

Mine has a 20 barrel and ACOG on the low mount, works pretty well. Its the same setup I saw Aussie troopers using in Iraq.

I have two:

- an A2 I am currently running with the factory optic (donut of death), which can be swapped with a rail section to mount anything.

- an A3 currently with a T-1 and fold down BUIS. This one has a One Source Tactical extended rail and case deflector that allows me to switch shoulders and not worry about getting hit in the face by brass.

So, you don't necessarily have to go through a whole bolt and ejection port cover change to shoot weak side shoulder.

I'm going to check out that deflector. Seems most wanting to take a couple shots are lefties.
I have a a3 sa and a m1.
