Ok you K98 lovers, you may NOT want to have a look at these four 1941 date code Russian capture K98's because they are not pretty and the bores are not shiney and the numbers don't match and they still got the nasty shellac on the stocks. But if you are not a K98 snob you might like to have a lookie see. I got four, a AR41, a BNZ41, a CE41, and a BYF41. I got butt-tons of crummy photos of all the markings everywhere I could find and posted them in albums on Flickr. All comments and especially valuations are appreciated.

The BNZ41:

The AR41(counterbored):

The BYF41:

Please excuse the poor photography. These are just as I bought them in 2007 and 2008 from SOG and Classic Arms. I did clean off most of the cosmoline from the metal. I have put a couple rounds through one or two but thats it, they just sit in the safe. Bore condition indications are that these four were definately used some during the war. The AR41 was counterbored as you can see.
Bores are as clean as they can be having received the Dave Dude special super hot soapy water and hot Break Free scrubbing. Patches come out absolutely clean, so what you see is the best they can be with my limited ability. Please tell me about the markings, I am K98 marking ignorant.

Thanks and enjoy,

Dave Dude

I'm thinking $350 each and $375 for the Steyr. Sound about right?

I have started collecting these now. What I have been doing is finding really nice rifles that have had the wood chopped at auctions and then getting a nice stock from my connection in the Netherlands. I picked up a very nice all matching CE 43 and an 42 40 in that manner for relatively cheap money, like $190 each. The last 2 that I did I got all matching stocks and hardware mated to an all matching non-import stamped, non RC action, so in essence, only 2 numbers. My guy tries to get me the correct WAa stamped stock for the action. The stock sets are running me about $295 delivered. On Saturday I got a rough but decent BNZ 45 in a correct Kreigsmarine stock with the screwed in barrel bands as well as a chopped BYF 45. I need to find a Kreig stock for it. My best one to date was an all matching 337 1939 that I got the correct stock for. My goal is to get at least one from each year, 1934-1945 in addition to some of the more obscure codes. Ar and Ax are on my list. I'll try to get some pics up soon.

Kfunk you are the man. There is a fellow that offered me a flatt butt plate, h band BNZ stock set (623 marks) for $250+33sh which should make my BNZ41 look better. If I had just half a brain, I'd be doing what you are doing.

Here are some of my babies...

Some are very discreet R/C's, some were bought off of Gunbroker. Most were picked up at local auction. The 27 40 is a vet bring back that is all matching with an original sling. I had to pay for that one!!
