So I have a mystery (to me... maybe I'm just dumb):uhoh:

I got my hands on a partial kit that makes no sense to me. It is a MAK90 milled receiver... that had the receiver demilled (band saw cut right in the middle of mag well):mad::eek::mad:

Does anyone know why this would have been done? I thought that the mak90 rifles were imported as whole rifles in a "sporter" configuration... I am so confused by why the ATF (or anyone else) would have done this...:WTF:

plus I have everything in the kit except the back half of receiver so its missing rear trunion... does this kit have any value and how hard would it be to build it back up?

Legal evil AK confiscated by liberal PD? Destroy evil AK and sell off parts rather than sell (release back into society) functioning AK?

no clue... When I saw this kit I almost cried... a milled mak90... killed in cold blood:mad:

I can't fathom a reason why it would have been cut like this... I really can't... if it was still in sporter config it should have survived even the brady ban... and since its missing half the receiver I don't know if it can be rebuilt and if so how hard it will be:cry::cry::cry:

I mean maybe they imported a bunch of demilled kits at some point but I don't get why when they were in sporter config and could be imported as whole rifles... my ignorant mind is baffled

A previous owner may have performed some mods on it not well smiled upon by the BATFE. Just sayin'. There really is no other reason to kill a fine piece of equipment like a milled MAK 90.

Could it have been the victim of the Bush the 1st ban in 89 ?

I'd be willing to bet that someone had that rifle in Kalifornia, and didn't register it as an assault weapon when our current communist law was passed back in the early 90's. In unregistered form, it's possession is a felony under the current laws.
As it has been rendered useless, it is no longer a felony to possess.
Then, they legally removed it from the state and sold it as a parts kit.

I really don't know, but it makes me sad...

any ideas on the prospects of saving it with a build project?

Sure, build it up on a milled receiver.

But where to find one for mak90

Sure, build it up on a milled receiver.

Or just reweld that one with a turbothis backhalf

I'm totally interested in that stub if you arent going to use it

I wonder if this was leftover stock at the factory when Chinese imports were banned.

Maybe you could tap a trunion for a stamped receiver to screw the barrel into that then build this kit on a stamped receiver?

I dont think mak's are threaded barrels. Note the barrel pin to hold it inplace?

Oh and anouther possibility there were some mak's that were imported with a rivet in the evil 3rd pin hole(for f/a sear) and are rather illegal, it could have been one of them

I think I've seen similar demills sold on Gunbroker that are guns seized by various police depts for various reasons.

CNC Warrior has milled Chinese receivers..

rebuild options are manifold. most easily accomplished by grinding front of receiver to fit inside a stamped receiver, then adding stamped receiver with new rear trunion. secondary option is to weld on a repair section. GTG with this as locking lug area is well ahead of the saw cut. third option is to weld a rear section of stamped receiver with new rear trunion to the front milled receiver stub.

Possible casualty of having the dreaded "third hole" for FA parts in the receiver...but I'm not positive that milled receivers had that issue.

Don't think the milleds had that issue, more likely a previous owner did something stupid and the PoPo took it away from him.

Any good at welding?

Add a Yugo milled rear receiver stub and have a FrankenKalashnikov.

yeah if I had the rear half of the receiver I would so a simple weld up and call it good... but without the rear portion I think I am best to buy a new reciever
