Looking for rock solid, no bullshit works every time optics mount for the 7.62X54R VEPR. A long low profile rail centered over the bore. Might put some target optics on it to play with handloads but will eventually mount more of a hunting optic for hogs here in Texas. So it needs to have enuf rail so I can mess around mounting different stuff.
Kalinka comes up, and Midwest Industries. What are you guys running that works? Not considering cheapo stuff, need a high reliability mount.

Dave, if you get the Regulate mount, remember there are 2 pieces you need. The mount itself (the lower), then there is a mount that goes from the mount to the center of the bore (the upper). Add those two together and they are more expensive than you think. In this picture if you look close, you can see the two separate pieces that together make up what you will need. About $200 total (Brownells). I'm sure you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

I used the BP02 for my PSL. Wasn't bad, but GunPlumber had to mill a bunch off the bottom to get it to clear the dust cover.

Thanks Andresere, that is good info. I am going to continue to look into mounts for awhile yet, not in any big rush.

RS Regulate for the win but I would skip messing around with dif scopes unless you have a box full of rings. To get low and get your eye relief right you need to work around the constraints of the weapon, like using a scope with no front bell to clear the rear sight.

Rings I can do. Box full of scopes as well but none with no forward bell. I am looking at that type of scope hard though.
Thanks!
Still looking, comments welcome.

Finally! Damn it has been awhile.
It may be cheaper somewhere but Brownells got the nod for the RS Regulate system. Right at 200 shipped. I did the AK-303 lower and the AKR upper.
I'll get some pics up in a week or so. I got various optics to try, not sure how it will end up yet. Can't wait.

Got the RS Regulate mount parts in Wednesday afternoon. Proceeded to model some optics with it.

With the PVS17 the whole thing weighs a ton and I would need to add some skyscraper cheek piece for it to work.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/22724067424/in/dateposted-public/" title="VEPR_PVS17"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/567/22724067424_95c912402a_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="VEPR_PVS17"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/23352438295/in/dateposted-public/" title="VEPR_PVS17_B"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/676/23352438295_e011835772_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="VEPR_PVS17_B"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Next up was the custom reticle ELCAN. But again, way too frickin high without some elevated cheek piece thingy or different stock. I like the way the ELCAN comes up with a big field of view instantly available.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/22984505579/in/dateposted-public/" title="VEPR_ELCAN"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5650/22984505579_27870122b4_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="VEPR_ELCAN"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

The Leupold went on next. Could not clear the rear irions with low and medium rings. Had to put on the see-thru rings to get it high enough and then--yeah, no cheek weld. Too high.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/23269875891/in/dateposted-public/" title="VEPR_Leupold"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5663/23269875891_d283f37a7f_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="VEPR_Leupold"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

By this time I am thinking, shit, all my groovy stuff does not fit. Shit. I expand my search just a little bit and voila! The Z24! OMG-scopegasm! Let's check this puppy.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/23244082382/in/dateposted-public/" title="VEPR_Z24"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/685/23244082382_c8c0ca9694_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="VEPR_Z24"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Moar better man. I can get cheek on stock with this and it has got that sexy German post reticle and very nice 4x glass. Yeah.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/23056645330/in/dateposted-public/" title="VEPR_Z24_B"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/568/23056645330_a3bae64609_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="VEPR_Z24_B"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

So there it is. YMMV. Please excuse my poor photography.
I have some 150g SP PPU 7.62X54R to enable playing at the outdoor range close by. (FMJ is a no-go there) Range trip coming soon.

Well we are way past time for an update, so here it is. I really like shooting this rifle it, is so easy on the shoulder, can shoot it all day. I use it to give my shoulder a break from the M39 which beats me up after a while. Here are pics from a couple of range sessions.

Yours truly sweating like a buffalo in the Texas heat.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/27430845334/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_20160618_135036598_HDR"><img src="https://c7.staticflickr.com/8/7506/27430845334_c79efb4f0e_c.jpg" width="450" height="800" alt="IMG_20160618_135036598_HDR"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

My VEPR is still set up as per the last update.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/27430578303/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_20160618_133117104_HDR"><img src="https://c8.staticflickr.com/8/7470/27430578303_54a3a319a0_c.jpg" width="450" height="800" alt="IMG_20160618_133117104_HDR"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Was shooting PPU 150g soft points that day in both the M39 and the VEPR.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/27764030980/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_20160618_141501267_HDR"><img src="https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7304/27764030980_f965c95003_c.jpg" width="450" height="800" alt="IMG_20160618_141501267_HDR"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

And here is my typical "poor trigger discipline" 5 round group at 100. See two into one hole and then jerk jerk jerk the trigger....

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/27764028300/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_20160618_140645960"><img src="https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7415/27764028300_b5193568ff_c.jpg" width="450" height="800" alt="IMG_20160618_140645960"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Next we go indoors. Much cooler but only fifty yards.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/27430571943/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_20160701_122037240"><img src="https://c8.staticflickr.com/8/7425/27430571943_9413a7be9f_c.jpg" width="450" height="800" alt="IMG_20160701_122037240"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Was shooting some Yugo surplus stash. Non-magnetic FMJ.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/27764032580/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_20160701_114611970"><img src="https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7685/27764032580_c3b8ae98c3_c.jpg" width="450" height="800" alt="IMG_20160701_114611970"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Tried out my new 10 round mags. None of them worked. Was getting failures to feed which would happen during the first couple rounds and then always the ninth round. The case mouth and bullet were getting damaged pretty bad.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/27430568863/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_20160701_114013571"><img src="https://c8.staticflickr.com/8/7265/27430568863_f4b4d97870_c.jpg" width="450" height="800" alt="IMG_20160701_114013571"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

The Molot five round mags work great, no failures. But not really a serious magazine IMHO. The VEPR is a serious rifle, why not make a serious metal magazine for it?

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/27763979960/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_20160701_114321908"><img src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7227/27763979960_09550e46d7_c.jpg" width="450" height="800" alt="IMG_20160701_114321908"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

And of course an example of my trigger jerk suckage.

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/77935473@N03/27430575243/in/dateposted-public/" title="IMG_20160701_105358377"><img src="https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7232/27430575243_15e2efef84_c.jpg" width="450" height="800" alt="IMG_20160701_105358377"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

I am still having problems with this set up, cheek weld is poor at best, especially if I do not want the scope to bash me in the eyebrow. Really need a cheek riser somehow. I love this Z24 scope, it is pretty fabulous. Trigger is still a little gritty on the takeup. All in all I really like this rifle, can shoot 7.62X54R all day without issue and it shoots much better than I am able.

Seems like the Yugo x54 is hotter than others.
I had a BP-02 mount.seemed cheesy, like it was made from pot metal or something. Sold it,buyer returned it busted... Ate that one..yep,cheap metal,he forced it.

I have to shoot ammo with no steel in the bullet at the indoor range, the Yugo fits the bill. I thought the BP-02 was supposed to be sturdier ?? So far the RS regulate mount has been ok. Will test the return to zero after unmounting and remounting to the side rail next time out.

Beautiful. I think I need a 54R Vepr next. Love the German glass. Oh, and nice shooting.
