Had a member here shorten the barrel on my DR200 and added the folder for the Ace stock. Still using the FAL hand guards. these are the best Iron sights there are according to my 53 yr old eyes. Can still hit 8" plates at 200yds with it from a rest and 12" squares standing. I put a Burris 1x4 on it to try it out and was banging 2" round steel at 100 and 4" at 200 like clockwork.
This is one underrated rifle. Drop in trigger is next on the list.
Thanks to all the members who posted up over the years. Reading these influenced my purchase. Oh, barrel is 16.1" now.

Is it still the Clinton era 1:12 twist?

Clinton era? keep going back. The 1 in 12 was what the M16 used in Viet Nam. This will just stabilize the 55 grain till it goes all tumbly turvy when contact is made. The faster twists are nice for drilling ice pic like holes in things.

Just a little 1in 12 action on ballistics gel.

I just meant in regards to when the thumb hole stock DR-200s were imported. I still kick myself for letting mine go because it would "only" shoot up to 55s.

Looks like an AR and an m1a had a baby, and that child grew up and had a fling with a FAL.

I kinda like it. Looks better than an AR. I like that it doesn't use the buffer tube system like an AR.

Does it take AR mags?

Yes, takes any AR mag. I've fired 62 grain JHPs through mine, and it still has sufficient accuracy to hit 8" plates at 200. It just doesn't make the plate jump about like my SLR does.

I bought one for $300 in the 80's. Very nice rifle but when the parts became so expensive and scarse I sold it. Very nice rifle. Never skipped a beat.

The best .556 Rifle Ever to me is the Steyr AUG or an Imbel MD2.

I have to agree with you on the AUG. So I put that as the #1 Bullpup. Daewoo would be for the guy's who can't operate an AUG.

The AUG wins for best "looking" bullpup, but the trigger sucks, even as bullpups go, it sucks. Also it's heavy and takes non-standard mags. If you want to use STANAG mags, you need a $300 stock kit which disables the last round BHO feature.

Tavor is a better bullpup if you're into that sort of thing. Trigger is "good for a bullpup" even better if the extra spring is removed, standard AR mags, heavy like the AUG and definitely not as sexy, but a better platform.

cheers,
c

You can fix the Steyr trigger with a less than $30.00 neu-trigger attachment.

Don't even get me started on everything they did wrong with the Tavor. I like the Israeli's and their weapons, but they dropped the ball on that one. Kinda fixed it with the X-95 that we don't get here.

You only need to disassemble both to see which is superior.

Not "Clinton Era"...Bush 1 was responsible for the banning of these excellent weapons in their original configuration. "Executive Actions" and all that.
