For a Dan Wesson heritage model 1911 stainless?

I wouldn't. Keep the S&W because some day it will go out of production and the value will increase. Just look at the high prices on discontinued Smith revolvers on the auction sites.

There is no shortage of M1911 pistols and there won't be any for the foreseeable future. Save up your money and then buy that DW.

And so it goes.

I agree with RB- keep the S&W for sure. There will come a day when the 617 will be considered a "classic" model.

+3 because I've actually done it. Wish I had the 617 back. Still have several 1911's and .22's, though.

I have to agree. Trade that Smith and you'll regret it. Keep the Smith and save for the 1911.

I won a 617 at a banquet. I didn't think much of it at the time until I priced them lately. It opened my eyes!! They will only go up in value.

Well you guys are making good sense and I thank you for it. I turned down the straight across trade.

Last year I was offered a straight cash price for my almost 40 year old Model 17 K-22 six inch. Back when I bought the K-22 the MSRP was as I recall around $150. I turned down an offer of $550 for the K-22. I honestly don't know what they are going for these days but it doesn't matter. I am keeping it for the time being. Then one day when I am ready it and the K-38 six inch will go on consignment sale.

And so it goes.
