I was given a present today. So,...next project on my list is to find an original stock for it and return it to better condition.http://i748.photobucket.com/albums/xx125/hangfire762/Kar98A_zps4xc6ylsg.jpg (http://s748.photobucket.com/user/hangfire762/media/Kar98A_zps4xc6ylsg.jpg.html)

More like an old "Fraulein", she's an early one that surely saw some service. Good luck with it.

The stock is really the only thing that needs to be replaced. The action is smooth as glass. It wasn't a bad deal for $50.

I can get you hooked up with a guy in the Netherlands that sells complete stock and hardware sets. They are usually all matching. Granted, the numbers will not match your rifle, but he sells nice stuff and it will be the correct stock for the BCD 41.

Thanks, I'd like to see what he has. When I collected helmets from WW1 & 2 I used to trade with a guy in the Netherlands.

Does any of the metal have matchign serials?. I sort of ask as it's neat that your bcd41 had a wartime barrel replacement. The 0,2 mark on barrel shoulder denotes a depot replacement barrel.

gew98- Thanks for that bit of info on the marking. I'll have to check the rest of it and see. I'll let you know what I find.

Dude! Excellent score man.

There were to my very limited knowledge seven factories making K98's in 1941. Yours is from the Gustloffweke factory. The other factories were:
Mauser Obendorf--BYF 41
JP Saur--CE 41
Erma--AX 41
Mauser Borsigwalde--AR 41
Berlin-Lubecker--DUV 41
Steyr--BNZ 41

I tried to collect all seven but did not succeed for various reasons and I'm no longer looking to do so. I did manage to get four of them, a BYF 41, a CE 41, a AR 41 and a BNZ 41. All non-matching Russian captures.
I wanted wartime production K98's when quality of materials was not compromised in any way.
I've cleaned the cosomline off them but that's it.
Now with my bad eyes shooting them is a bit of a challenge and I am hesitant to put glass on them.
Sorry for rambling I could not help it when I saw your 41!
Good luck with the stock!

Did you ever find your stock hangfire762?

Haven't found a stock yet. I had to hold off to get my next hunting rifle ready. I'll start looking again here soon. I keep the old girl at the front of the safe so I can't forget.
