I recently picked up one that appears unfired in it's original box w/original accessories and mags, no papers however. From the serial number it was manufactured in April 1988, the same as my son's birth. It does not have a ported barrel.

I'm going to shoot it as I am not a Glock collector and I shoot everything I own. I'll post pics as soon as I get time.

FWIW, I missed a Gen 1 G19 out of the same batch of Glocks that went for a paltry $450 in 99% condition w/original box, accesories and papers.:facepalm:

Congrats on the 17L. Some (myself included) would pay well over $1k for a true Gen 1 19, $450 is an absolute steal for one of those.

Shoot the shit out of it.

Had it been one of the ported models, I would have suggested not shooting it. I personally have seen 4 original ported 17L's with cracks at their ports. I owned one myself. I sold it after GLOCK refused to replace the original ported cracked barrel with another ported... Kind of negated the reason for having the slide porting..

What makes a gen 1 G19 so desirable?

Very few were imported. Some report as few as a couple dozen to as many as several dozen. I don't know if there is an official number.

I prefer the feel of the gen 1 and gen 2 Glocks.

I sold mine recently for $600.00 and also got $25.00 per mag. It was to a friend who will most likely return the favor on something as well.

They were only mfg'd for a span of 3-4 months (Sept- Dec of 1988), in Dec '88 into Jan of '89 they transitioned to Gen 2 and it's estimated that only a few dozen Gen 1 19s were made with the majority being purchased by the Kansas Dept of ABC.
