Original L1A1 Buttplate Color

I'm putting the final touches on a wood set for my L1A1 and am wondering if the metal buttplate was originally left a brushed aluminum color or was it blued, painted black, WECSOG black magic marker:D

I had a new buttplate from Dealers Warehouse. It had a green chromate finish that, over the years, disintegrated to a dull gray finish on the aluminum. None were ever furnished in bright aluminum, they get that way from normal wear & tear.

Got two unissued ones from Enterprise. Both a dull gray color.
