I'm selling something, and a guy offered me less than what I am asking, but he did offer a Colt New Frontier Kansas Edition .22 with box as part of the deal. He is supposed to send pictures tonight, and I will put them up when I get them. I didn't know Colt even did these, but just ballparkin' what is it worth? I know condition, rounds down the pipe, etc dictate that - but he says in the neighborhood of $500. Is he pulling my leg, or legit? You guys are the smartest most honest bunch I know, so I figured I would run it by the collective first.:biggrin:

I couldn't find the "Kansas Edition". The latest auction's on GB for Colt .22 Frontier's are around $488. One with duel cylinders, .22 and .22 mag..high bid $850.00. Hope this helps.

They did a ton of Commemorative .22lr's. $500 is a good price if it's new in box. Once you take any of the commemoratives out and shoot them they are worth about as much as any other used .22lr.

The value of such limited edition Colts largely depends on condition. If new in the box and never fired and no turn line on the cylinder then you will pay more. But if there is a turn line or it has been fired then values can drop as much as 50 percent. I learned this the hard way by trading for a NIB Colt 125th Anniversary SAA .45 made in 1961. I took it out one day to the range and put 50 rounds of Winchester 255 grain RNL factory loads through it. It lost half of its value which wasn't all that much to begin with. Colt made a lot of these back in the day and they sold new for about $150. Today that SAA is just a shooter grade and worth less than an ordinary 2nd gen model. So I still have it buried in the safe. Live and learn.....

Just a glance at the Blue Book shows several varieties of Kansas Frontier Scouts, ie, Kansas Cowtown Series; Kansas Trail Series.; Kansas Fort Series. 3 or 4 varieties of each. All book at $595 NIB. As previously said, condition is everything. If you have it unfired AND no effects of poor storage, the presentation case, literature and outer shipping box, you can do better than book, ie, $650 range. Any imperfections or missing items and the price goes down. If fired, $350.

It's been used, not like rode hard and put up wet, but definitely used. I told him I wanted to wait and see what my add produced this weekend. So he wrote back and raised the cash price while asking me if I was interested in a 1937 Luger. I am waiting for pictures of the Luger. But considering I was asking $3850 and he's offering $3200 and a '37 Luger, I'm hoping today's my lucky day. This is what I'm selling. Spent about 10 years on it and I shudder to contemplate how much money. But I don't ride it, it just sets in the garage.

My best friend who lives up the road aways still has my 1st bike. It is an '76 XLCH. I think over the years he has put around 20K in it.

A kicker. 1975 and 1976 share a weird shifting setup. 1975 Congress mandated that motorcycles in the US would be shifted on the left side. Harley wasn't ready for that, so they came up with a long arm on the right side that goes back to a crossover tube, then a shifter peg on the left that is a about a foot and a half long to bring the pedal to the rider's foot. 1977 was the first year of true left hand shift for Sportsters.

Yep, It was a rig at best. The CH is and was a screamer once I got the carb sorted out.. Always looking for a 5th gear. Tops out at about 110 with fire coming from the pipes:biggrin:

He actually took the fork tubes and turned the down the block that had the reflectors on it. All the bolts are SS. He polishes on it till it looks like an aircraft engine

I have a '71/72 HD that is a right side shifter. Raked and dropped and has a wide glide in the front and is bored over. Rigid rear with the frame opened for a larger tire.

If indeedy it is an AMF, that's off...while in amazing condition, the AMFs aren't in demand much around here. Amazing condition on the bike, however!

Bowling Ball Harleys, etc.

Post pics of the Luger! I think you did exceedingly well on that trade. I have a '39 Luger and the price alone (condition and rig dependent) creeps up on the price of your bike.

I just sold this Sportster. It's a 66XLH I've had since '79.

Sportsters get a bad rap in this day and age. They are often referred to as
"girls' bikes" by big twin owners that know little about the heritage of the Sportster. They were possibly the only American made "Super Bike", having their heyday in the late fifties to early-to-mid sixties. Nice looking bike, andresere! Pardon my intrusion in this thread.

Not at all. That is one clean looking bike! Did you ever notice that the "bros" that call them a girls bike have a total of 200 miles on their own bikes?
This one was my first Harley - I did everything the wrong way, spent way too much money but I learned so much from doing that bike. It went to a collector of Sportsters. He didn't have an AMF Sporty and wanted a matching number, clean bike. An AMF that isn't all hacked to shit or beat up is hard to find. He will enjoy it, and I enjoy the Luger so I think we both got what we needed from the deal.

Those are some really nice Irons. Even though I don't fit well on them, always liked them, and their history. Hard to find ones that aren't all hacked up, rusted or neglected, or have a bunch of stupid billet bolted all over them. Thanks for the nice big clear pics, too.

Sportsters are one of the longest running engine lines that Harley made (1957 to now). Only the Servi-Car came close.
