I picked this barrel up at an estate sale and from what i can tell its a Gustloff with matching bolt/barrel with an nice bore. im in the process of putting it all back together but not sure how much money i should put into it as i dont have much experience with mauser codes and numbers.......is this a good rifle? should i put out good money and get a walnut stock, leather sling and re blued or just go cheap with the parts?

thank you,

BCD 4 is a middle variety code, ie, not real common, but not too rare. Your bolt and some other parts match the receiver and the bore is good. If it was mine, I would put some money into it. I have a guy in the Netherlands who has real nice all matching stock sets for about $300. He gets a nice variety, so if you are patient, he can usually get you the right coded stock for your rifle. Get that, a trigger guard assembly, follower and spring, action bolts and a repro front sight cover, sling and cleaning rod and you will have a real nice K98. I am doing 2 right now, A BYF 41 and a DOU 43. I have some really nice ones and some rare codes, like a 337 39, a 27 39 and a 660 coded rifle. I have about a dozen all said and done from an all matching BNZ 42 to total mixmasters. I enjoy researching them and trying to find the correct parts for them. Good luck!!
