View Full Version : Ruger 10/22 mag issue

OK. I bought a 50th anniversary back in April, camo plastic stock, just because it was cheap, $180, and I needed a 4th 22 rifle
Took it out of the box last night to mount a scope and the mag will not drop out of the rifle. I cannot pull the mag out with my fingers either. If I stick my little finger into the ejection port and press down the mag will drop.
Anyone else have any issues with these new 10/22's?

Screw protruding from rear of mag.

Screw seems to be fine. Filed the mold parting lines from the stock in the mag well and filed the edges/high spots on the mag. I can now pull it out with my fingers. Seems like the mag body and the stock are just poor quality moldings.

Saw a guy at our local club over the weekend who seemed to have the same issue with a new polymer stock 10/22.

I will say be careful in enlarging the magazine well. If the magazine is allowed to rotate past vertical, clockwise, it will result in feeding issues. It is less sensitive about slop in the other direction.

I had that issue too with a new mag that I bought for my Ruger American Rimfire .22LR.

All the older (pre-2014) mags fit in both the RAR and my 2012 Takedown and dropped free, this one did not.

I sanded the magazine down and did not enlarge the magwells of both guns. I never saw any good point in ruining a good rifle or two over a $20 magazine.

I had problems with my ruger 77/22 mag.

I sent it back to the factory and they sent me a new one without any hassles.

Try s;)ending it back; however, they may not exchange it since you screwed with it.

Same here, except that my LVT is about a month old, not a week, but there are absolutely no clearance problems witht the mag. Or mags; I've tried several different ones in that rifle.

I think you're on the right track with widening the mag well slightly. It won't take much, just a few thousandths and your mag should drop out just fine.
