I would be interested in the few loose ones. I am working on a getting the mags to feed right on 7.62x54r Bren conversion. The 54r shoots fine but having some feeding issues from the standard mags, so the mags need to by modified.

Ever consider finding some ZB-30 mags? They were made for the 7.92 round and may be easier to use for the X54

The rim dia is only .473" on the 7.92. The rim on the .303 is .540" which is closer to the 54R's .634. So that's why I kinda have to stick with the 303 mags

I was also told that ZB-30 mags feed the 54R better. I have a semi Bren in both .303 and 54R, neither of them will feed right with more than 10 or so rounds in the mag. I use the .303 mags for the .303 and the ZB mags for the 54R.

Let me add to the hijack,......

ZB39 mags are your best bet for 54R although they don't work flawlessly either. There's a follower mod that might help. .303 Bren mags are really not much use for 54R and no amount of modifying is going to help. It's the shoulder diameter differences between .303, 7.62x54R and 8x56R that causes the feed problems.

Thanks. You all have just dashed my dreams of converting 303 mags to 7.62x54R, or saved me one hell of a lot time and energy.

I'll go with the ZB39 mags!!!

The ZB39 mags (8x56R) were good for that as-is, but DAMN they've gotten pricey

Another option was WECSOGing these, but they got popular and pricey with those PSL (AK54) builds. $40 is too much.

Numrich has 'em for $20@, get one and mebbe use the mag lips as a template.

I've got a live Bren and plowed these fields ten years ago trying to get away from .303. At the time I had access to a shop where we had Brens, ZB30s, and a Lahti-Soloranta in stock along with parts kits from everything else,....including the ZB39.There's just no good answer other than possibly converting to .308. Every magazine alternative for the 7.62x54R has a roadblock in it somewhere. All are usable to some extent if you can be happy with a couple of modified magazines feeding a dozen rounds semi-reliably(semi-auto Bren range toy), but for a high volume, easy to feed LMG(meaning lots of unmodified cheap magazines feeding lots of cheap surplus ammo reliably), it's a no-go.

I've still got all these different mags, barrels, and spare bolts(ZB39)sitting in storage boxes along with 7.62x54R chambering reamers and ammo. I don't expect to ever use it. It's cheaper and easier to find/load .303 Brit and when it's not I'll work on a .308 conversion.

Kev, you don't have a couple of right and left side receiver pieces laying about do you? I would like to use them to cut fillers for my torch cut one.

Nope, sure don't. Everyone I know just bridges the gap with weld when building post-samples. Never had one go bad,.......there's a lot of metal in a Bren receiver.

Boy, you guys are full of good news. I was trying to stay away from the zb mags due to high prices

They've gone nuts. They used to be $15 magazines and I recall a group buy on weaponeer, 10 mags shipped for $110. Of course, that was before anyone knew what to do with them, but for no better than they work with 7.62R they're not worth what they're asking now. But that's to be expected considering who has them. That place has never been about bargains.

Had some dude tell me that a sneaky fix for shooting 7.62 X 54R. He said if you seat the projectile a "little" deeper in the cartridge case it will cycle through a .303 mag. Haven't tried it yet, but ...

Yeah, 7.62 might cycle through a .303 Bren mag one at a time. Try sticking 5rds in the mag though and it's all over. It has nothing to do with the overall length but with the rim and shoulder diameters and how the rounds stack in the magazine.
