Ive been wanting to get a vintage colt1911 forever and wondering where i should spend my time looking. I dont want a safe queen and spend +$2k, but one that i could shoot up without feeling guilty. Maybe 800-1200? Is that enough budgeted? Is gunbroker the place or does someone know of a dealer that maybe specializes in vintage colts.

Was this at Kane County?

I remember when used 1911s and 1911A1s could still be found pretty easily...as values have gone up over time most have been snapped up by people who have them restored and then try to pass them off as mint original pieces.

I have a true 1927 Hartford Colt ( pre Argentine contract), that I inherited from a relative that I basically just keep in the safe that needs to come out and be used. It has a little history to it as the last time it was used was in the late 1960's to scare off some aggressive KKK members in Mississippi.

Sarco has some of the U.S. manufactured Argentine contracts now. I've actually had real good luck on Gunbroker.
