I've been wanting another shotgun lately. Today in the shop while looking for some long lost parts on a shelf I found an old box with a disassembled Winchester 1897 inside. :uhoh:

Now I have a cool project to work on. I don't even remember buying this thing.

That's a good find, is it near complete?

Everything major is there. I have to dig through the baggie of small parts to see if everything is there.

That's Cool, they were/are die hard old Blasters.

This will be my second one when it's back together. I had one as a young teenager that I got from my grandfather. Still have it. I would hold the trigger back and pump as fast as I could. Sounded like a semi auto :D.

The front of my index finger bled from the trigger guard hammering back against it, but oh well.

It'll also take the top off your hand/finger too as each time you shoot your hand slides forward a bit on the stock and that bolt goes across the top of the hand. The model 12 took care of that problem though with the bolt being inside the receiver. That's a nice find though and project.

PM me if you need a sounding board, I built one from a box of parts awhile back.

The hammer-trigger-sear relationship is critical to timing, so if one of those components is worn you'll embrace Anxiety. :reallymad: Mostly I remember the hammer riding forward with the bolt.

Thanks Story. I'll contact you when I get to that point. I definitely want it to be right.

I did that a couple years ago, too. My parts were extremely rusty and pitted beyond collectible condition. I made it into a mock trench gun! Have fun and watch that hammer/trigger/sear fit!

Not to hijack, but here's what I did with mine. Made the take-down into the trench gun and sold the older one.
