I saw a Brazilian Mauser today at the show. Had what appeared to be a FAL butt-pad, Imbel combo device, and H&K/CETME front and rear sights. $400.00 and it looked very nice. Never seen one like it before. Can anyone give me some info on it?

Spanish Mausers (FR-8 & FR-7s) have Cetme front sights.

Interesting...makes me think of an "03A3" version of a K98k.

Which is his asking price. I don't know yet if it's sold or not, but will find out tomorrow.

It didn't sell at the show, and when I called him yesterday he had upped the price. While it's a very unique looking rifle, I'm not sure I'd drop $500.00 on it when I can get something as good or better for the same price, and be able to get repair parts as well.
I asked him to E-mail me pics so I can post them here.

I think I paid $600 for mine last year.

How does it shoot, and was it worth the six bills? I'd like a 7.62 NATO bolt gun, and would like to fire commercial loads through it. In the boards' opinion, would this rifle be safe for such use?

I had 3 FR8's, 2 original and 1 that Bubba sporterized. Sold one of the originals and wish I hadn't.

I like military bolt carbines in 308.

I in my opinion that rifle is worth between $400 and $500.

If you don't buy it please give me the sellers contact info.

Haven't gotten around to shooting it yet. I bought it cuz it's a weird bastardized mutt of a rifle, and I think it's cool as hell. Plus it's a Mauser, so how can a guy go wrong? Mine came with the bayonet, too.

If it's like the rifle in the pic, it's a German manufactured contract Mauser on a '98 action. Depending on condition of course,....sure, it's good for commercial .308. You could rechamber and it would be good for .300 WinMag. No real limits on that action.

Finally heard back. Bore is dark but rifling is strong. I plan to check it over this weekend, may pick it up to see if I like shooting it. If it's too light and harsh on my shoulder I'll pass it on to here.

Well, I finally got to inspect this up close. I must say I'm a bit disappointed. When the seller told me the bore was "dark but rifling is good", that's what I expected. However, upon inspection, the rifling was pretty much gone, which for me pretty much killed the deal.
Sure, I could've had a new barrel installed, but why drop five bills on it only to drop more for a new barrel?

Damn, was hoping for a good shooter.... better luck next time.

If he is interested in selling as a wall hanger I am interested. I would offer $250, just because I don't have one and it looks cool.

He's firm on his price, so I imagine he'll have it for some time.
