Friend of mine has #84 of the 89 1990 Limited Edition Border Patrol 870 Shotties. He is wanting to sell. Trying to give him a hand. Is this thing really worth "$1500-$2500" like I am seeing on the web? It looks likes pretty standard 870 Police model with some extra engraving.

Granted, it's a scarce item and are rarely for sale, but seriously, it's an 870 with a hardwood stock. What gives?

It's a "collector" thing I suppose. Just think, it's one of only 89 marked especially for BP's. :whistling:
Need I mention that it's nearly 25 years old? Wait a year and it will be a genuine antique.

My ole 870 is getting along in years, maybe I'll have it engraved "Maine 1 of 1" or some such. Ought to get quite a few bucks for it, you think? :|

I find it best not to question these things, just place it for sale where foo...er collectors can find it and your friend should be happy he was smart to have bought it in the first place. I hope he didn't actually shoot the thing.

Wasn't the BP a 14" barrel?

Or was that just the Scattergun cum Wilson Combat version.

Auctions will separate fools . . . oops, I mean "collectors" from their money.

I've only seen pictures so far. Will see in person Saturday. Looks to be a 20 inch barrel to my eye. It has been shot. I've read that all 89 were purchased originally by BP agents. No idea if true.

I think this answers your own question. It's probably only worth the extra $$$ to a very few people. To most folks it will do no more/less than any other 870.

They may be worth that to a few former or current BP agents that are collectors or want a reminder of their BP days. I would think that is why they may have all originally been bought by BP agents..

I bought a nice wood stock, parked 870 10 years ago for less than $200. After that school shooting last year they wanted $600 for the same shot gun.

A fool and his money........You can't fix stupid.........They are sure out there.

Naw, you need to have it engraved 'Maine 1 of 2,' and drive some poor collector nuts looking for the other one!
