View Full Version : Daewoo AR-100?

I have recently taken possession of a Daewoo AR-100 and I know next to nothing about it. It’s not stamped K1 or K2 so I really have no idea of what I’ve got. It simply says “Daewoo Precision Industries LTD” “Made in Korea” “5.56mm AR-100” “Imported By I.A. CO. SAC’ TO, CA”.

I’ve seen a couple here and there online, but never with this finish which appears to be Electrolux Nickel, but I’m not 100% on that.

Can anyone provide me with any additional information about this interesting gun?

As soon as I can figure how to insert pictures, I'll post some.

Thanks!

What you've got is a Daewoo AR-100/Max II. It's the street legal (except, of course in Liberal Paradises such as CA, MA, NY, CT, and so on) version of the selective fire model K2 used by the South Korean Army, Navy, etc.

They're a really good rifle, combining the best features of the AR-15 and the AK-47. They use AR-15 magazines. I'm like you, I've never seen one with an electroless nickel finish. I'd almost be willing to guess that someone had the metal parts hard chromed at some point, but without pics, it's hard to tell.

Some of the barrels have a 1 in 12 twist, and some have a 1 in 9 twist. I think that depends on when it was built. I have a Max II from the late 80's with a 1 in 12 twist barrel. The pre-ban Daewoos are either named Max II or Ar-100. Same basic gun. The post-ban models are labeled as DR-200, and come with the politically correct thumbhole stock and fake flash suppressor. The AR-100 and Max II have a standard pistol grip and folding stock.

I hope you enjoy your new (to you) Daewoo. If for some wierd reason you don't care for it, let me know how much you want to sell it for.

Do you have to have a special membership to just cut and paste pictures into the message? I tried to attach a picture and it will only allow me to paste a URL... lame.

I actually have two AR-100s, one appears to be factory new, and the other (that I thought was less valuable) is the nickel looking one with a funky flash suppressor.

If you PM me your email address I'll send off some pictures I have of it.

Thanks for the info, it really helps.

Might need to have your pics at somewhere like photobucket.

That sounds like an interesting Daewoo for sure.

It's definitely different than any that I've been able to find pictures of online. Not sure if the nickel finish makes it more valuable or less.

if it's a factory job, it could be worth more like a coltguard finish. if it's done aftermarket, it actually makes it worth less than an original finished gun.

In my limited experience, and what little research I've been able to do, that is pretty much what I was thinking.

I'm no expert, but it does not appear to be a factory job. It's not 100% consistent and there is some uneven ware.

I'm gonna hit the range next week. If it's a good shooter I may just put it in the safe and call it a day. Either way, it would still be nice to know what I've got.

yeah given their lack of popularity when they were introduced, i don't really see them doing anything special to them.

depending on how the finish was applied, you may be able to have it blasted off and reanodized but if it doesn't bother you, leave it alone and shoot the heck out of it.

My thoughts exactly.

But, I already kept it's nicer, newer (looking) counterpart. So... if it's still worth some decent scratch, it might be worth selling.

I agree with StormWerkz, it looks like the Robar NP3. If I'm not real badly mistaken, that's a type of electroless nickel process. But that's definitely NOT a Daewoo flash suppressor on the muzzle.

That is super cool...don't care what anyone says.

If you ever want to sell it, hit me up first.

Yes, I do intend to sell one and keep one. I'm still in the process of doing my research to figure out what they're worth (realistically) and which one I would prefer to keep. I'll post more information as soon as I'm satisfied with my information.
