WOW,

Holy Hideousness Batman! I thought the plain F88 was ugly. I think I threw up a little after seeing that Andy. How far have we fallen from the beautiful SLR lines, next you'll tell me you're getting rid of the BHP for a Glock.

Sadly they ditched the quick detach/quick attach barrel. That is one of the very best feature of the AUG.

How well does the stock protector work?

It works extremely well. I got it from a guy off Gunbroker, and I installed just after I got the stock hydro-dipped.

The flash hider check nut looks old school.
Did you replace the A3 check nut or did your rifle come with that?

I've yet to find that "good priced" AUG, but does this count for half credit
m9a1 and m40a1, both are the newest gen.

Yes, I carried an AUG-P for 17 years as a Special Agent for U.S. Customs, so I guess I like the "tulip" flash hider. I got mine from Pete Athens at PJS Investiments.

That tan one was also new to me. Other than that, you got a good looking colletction there.

Regarding modern day Steyrs, I like the AUG and the SSG.

Andy the Aussie
March 08, 2014, 05:18
The tan is an F90. Lithgow's evolutiuon of the F88 that was in turn the AUG. The F88AS1 (or2?) is the front line service rifle here, green stock (some tan as well I think) tan metal as with the F90 pictured. The 40mm is a trials launcher I know little about yet.

Pete... I have not forgotten you either. Just life/work getting in the way. Away from home just at the moment with work.:sad:

This is probably the largest private collection of pre ban Steyr AUG rifles in Ohio. Here you see two Black AUG sixteen inch barreled AUGs mint in their boxs with a green sixteen in the middle in it's original box.

http://i48.tinypic.com/2e5mseb.jpg

Here they are with the rest. On either side are Steyr M pistols and one Steyr S pistol (rather rare in US from what I understand) along with a Steyr GB pistol in the upper right.

The bolt gun is a 20 inch heavy barrel Steyr SSG-69. in .308 win.

http://i46.tinypic.com/vwzgc6.jpg

Here is a better view of the Steyr M and S pistols. The S is in 9mm. Steyr later revamped the design as the M-A1 and S-A1.

Here is another one you don't see often. The Steyr GB "Gas Bremse" or gas break. Failing to capture the Austrian military contract to the Glock in 1980 they tried to survive on the civilian market. Big and expensive sadly they did not last long. Gene Gangarosa Jr. wrote a fairly good piece on the subject so I will post a link to what he wrote.

http://www.remtek.com/arms/steyr/gb/gb.htm

Here you see a GB in its original box with all the contents, save for a piece of the cleaning kit which fell under the papers when I set it down, it is there under it all... A copy of SWAT magazine with a write up on them, an ad from the time they were on the market in the 80s and a 1985 Steyr price sheet from the distributor, Gun South.

Not sure, picked 'em up at a thrift store. They were used as a container to sell other stuff inside them. I told them I wanted the crates and I got looks like this:?:?:?:?

Tankdriver, You were still missing one item for the Steyr GB, The combat muzzle brake, A very rare item in the USA. I sold a Steyr muzzle brake with my Steyr GB with one last year for 1650.00. Less than 20 were imported into the USA from 2 different importers who went out of business years ago.
