Still got those, or are you driving something made from them now?

Still have both of those, bought the 4 in 89 and the 6 last year. I think there is a rusty 1911GC and a Glock and a couple of .22s in the safe with the as well... ;)

You guys limited in how many evil firearms you can own?

Nope, not really, there is the "genuine need" clause but so far I am not sure anyone has hit the upper limit of that... ;)

I'm with you and JeffJ on this, Andy. I don't have a six inch L frame, but I have one each of 4" 586 and 686 revolvers, and I'm convinced that they're the best design that S&W ever came up with.

The 586 I bought new right after they were introduced in the early 80's, probably around '83 or '84, It doesn't have a series number, which I guess makes it a 586-0. The 686 I bought from a wholesaler who dealt in police trade-ins. It used to belong to the Shreveport, LA, police department, as indicated by the S'port P.D. stamp on the left side of the frame. Both guns wear Pachmayr gripper grips, just like yours, and both shoot extremely well as far as accuracy is concerned. I still have the original box and grip panels for the 586. The 686 didn't come with any of that, just the aftermarket grips.

I've used the 686 as a class gun doing marksmanship and CCW classes for many years, and it still looks good and functions perfectly. Just gotta love the L frames.:D

My six inch 686 is also early eighties. It has a wonderful trigger.

I have my 6" 686-3 Silhouette I bought new in 91. I love the 4 position front sight.

The 686 is why there are no more Pythons. The 686 may not be as pretty but it doesn't shoot out of time after a thousand rounds. I have an early 686 snub nose round butt which I enjoy.

Nice catch JeffJ. Let us know how well she shoots.

I carried a 686 6" while working the streets, purchased new in 83, still close at hand. Managed to shoot Distinguished Expert with it in spite of my abilities!

By the way, my oldest lives in your area. He likes eating smoke.

First shots, indoor range could use more light but not bad, 357 seems more consistent than the 38's.
