View Full Version : Gen 2 glock 20 caliber options

I have a gen 2 G20 and was wondering what other calibers it can fire. I know .45 is not an option since the barrel will not fit. I know .40 is a slam dunk, just by replacing the barrel. What other calibers are available without having to but a whole slide, as quick change (barrel and mag only)?

BTW I am new to glocks (have had the G20 for a while but have not shot it much.) and learning.

The 10mm is a perfect a handgund round as there is. why would you want to change it to anything else?:p

I bought the .40 barrel just to try and get a little more use out my G20 but still don't shoot it much. The only thing that really makes "sense", at least to me, is 9X25. The 10mm cartridge, suitably handloaded, is already pretty hot so to get any increase one would need to go to something like 9X25. I have thought about it but have too many irons in the fire and have not fully explored the options with plain old 10mm yet.

Even if you could launch thermonuclear warheads with it, what do you seek to do with this handgun that cannot be done with .40 S&W?

Agreed, I spent 2 months researching handgun calibers before deciding on .40

Not this "my caliber is better than yours" shit again. Shoot what you can shoot accurately and rapidly enough to defend yourself against someone who's seriously trying to kill you.

Well now, throwing nukes into the discussion is just unnecessary escalation don't you think? Why don't we cap the arms race at expanding bullets without going all atomic and stuff? Next you will be posting one of those bayonets that mount on the rail.:(

I've since replaced all my airsoft with 9mm, but I'm just not getting people to fly across the room when hit like in the movies. Should I try holding it sideways?

They make .40 Super barrels for Glock 21, not sure they make them for Glock 20 or not but if you are looking for something more powerful this would be it.

Want something more than a hot 10 mm buy a 44 magnum revolver.....with those two bangers, those are pretty damn tough to beat.

I have pretty much any caliber in a handgun already. I like to have different options when I go to the range. I handload a bunch of a caliber and shoot it in several guns. A barrel swap means I do not need to bring many guns. I was hoping to be able to drop in a 45 barrel since the frame is the same as the 21 but it is not possible. I was looking for options, and if I really cared about the "my caliber is better than yours" I would just shoot my 41 mag, since it is the highest power 40 cal.

Well if your looking for options, look at finding a Glock 21 slide and barrel and a couple mags and you'll have the 45 acorn option that your looking/ hoping for. Or sell the model 20 and buy the model 21 and then get a convert barrel for 10 mm.

Really your options at this point are:
9mm Dillon
40 s&w
357 Sig

Will the 10mm barrel fit in a 21? what is the difference between the 20 and 21? I know the 21 barrel will not fit in a 20 (I tried) but will the 20 barrel fit in a 21?

Still new to glocks and trying to learn.

But the breechface and extractor will likely be different, since the .45 is larger in diameter. I think I'd stick with the 20 and using different barrels to fire .40cal.-derived rounds in it.

Ok to get the 10mm barrel to work in the G21 it would need to be a conversion barrel as a factory barrel would not be large enough in diamiter and would flop around in the slide and you wouldn't have any kind of accuracy.

As far as the breach face being big, its okay as the conversion barrel centers the barrel/ round on the breach face. The ejector is slightly off dew to the differance in diamiter but that can be changed out very easy and cheaply. (About $10 if I remember my prices correctly ).

I shoot 9mm out of my G35 all the time with a conversion barrel and have yet to any kind of failure.

Looks like 45 is out, but 40/357 and 9 are options. Not too interested in the 9x25.

Thank guys.

I dont think anyone was going that way in this thread....
But ya know the title of this thread is caliber options, so its quite possible people will be discussing different calibers....
