Picked up a two M44's a few months back for something like $45 each.

One of them I gave to my Cousin.
The other I still have. It's a Polish Circle-11 rifle.

It has definitely seen War at some point... Stock is full of dings and scratches, the receiver doesn't have much finish left, the Bayonet has some pitting from what I assume to be Blood.

It is unmatching save the receiver the magazine/trigger assembly.
I'm thinking I may want to refinish the stock and see if I can give it new life, but at the same time I don't want to destroy the history the rifle carries with it.

I just cleaned out all the crime and cosmo. If I don't do a refinishing job, the least I want to do is seal her up with some Tung oil to preserve the stock.

What should I do?:?

How is the bore? If its really nice I'd restore it. ;)

Rifling is still strong and just a little dark. Quite surprising since the seller said they were dark/dirty.
It passes the bullet test very easily. I'd have to hammer a bullet down the muzzle to get it to fail.

The crown has no finish around it. But it isn't counterbored.

Would no finish around the crown mean it needs to be re-crowned?

Not sure. It's got the usual wear and scratches up on the muzzle, but I haven't seen any rounds key-hole or anything as far as I can remember.

If it were mine, I would recrown it and shoot the fire out of it. Enjoy it for what it is and don't waste one minute of your life trying to make it something that it is not.
