This Hi-Power stuff is an addiction.

Some eye candy for you.

THE COLE'S COLLECTION:
Four from Gary Cole:
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/connie82/047_zps69114a31.jpg

Two parked FN T-Series that I have plans to re-blue. I also have the red-backed grips to get them back original.

A '77 C-Series FN that I carry on duty at the hospital, probably leave that one as is. Unbelievable shooter!

And finally, a 1952(?) from Cole's, very nice piece.

A 'T' Series and a Nazi stamped WWII version will complete the collection...not forgetting an Argy HP.

Good lookin batch you got there.

Here's my Belgian trifecta. Being a left handed shooter I like the ambi-safeties and the taller target sights sure are nice. Both of the newer guns are Israelis. The parked one is from Coles.

I forget the year of the older one. It's not a Israeli - may be a Belgian PD gun though.

I get into trouble real easy looking at Coles auctions on Gunbroker. I think to myself - If I walked into a gun shop and saw that pistol sitting there for that price... I'd buy it. That could get expensive.

Hi Powers are just great guns. I have a lot of other pistols, and quite a few of them are 9mm but I shoot the Hi Power the best of all of them. And my FN .40 Hi Power is a real shooter too with 180 grain lead reloads. You have to love it when a great gun shoots really well with your cheap reloads! I am rotating back around to shooting 9mm more and developing a 9mm load around 124 grain RNL and probably Titegroup. If all goes well I will be shooting my 9mm Hi Power and my 9mm 1911 quite bit in the not to distant future. Thanks for sharing a fine collection, lots of worse things to be "addicted" too!

Nice guns - have one myself, a West German Sig 228, or the new HK P30 are more natural pointing pistols... I modified my HP for competition and I did well with it... but there are better 9mm's out there if you want to pick up a gun and shoot it from the hip, and have the pill land where you are looking... without aiming - say within 15-20 feet.

HP's are definitely addictive. I've only got three, but two of the three are fairly rare. One's a satin chrome 9mm with adjustable sights and factory Pachmayr grips, one's a blued fixed sight .30 Luger (still NIB), and the last one is an Argy 9mm with lanyard loop, ring hammer, and faux ivory grips. I'm still looking for some WWII style grips for it. The grips that came with it weren't original, so I didn't feel bad putting the Hogue faux ivory panels on it, and they look nice.

I also want a Nazi version with the Waffenampt stamp, but they're getting hard to find and pricey when and if you do find one.

I remember the nice Argy's that came in for $199. Too bad hammer bite hits me with true HPs.

Very nice collection.

3) A DGFM-FMAP Argy, refinished in green, with smaller parts in black.
4) An 1984 re-blued....in awesome condition.
5) a 1983 ex-Israeli, Arsenal re-parked, in great shape.
6) A 1943 Nazi, great condition, with clear Waffy marks.

Some nice stuff pictured here.. I was once an HP freak and had a few, down to one keeper now, what with all the wonder 9's around, not to mention- Glocks.... To a student of firearms the HP is something of a grail, or it was to me until I finally intersected money and affordable pistol. And they WERE pricey back in the day and I made do with a Smith model 39.
My last BHP35 is an early 70's, fixed sights, with a lightly-carried look about it. Carried it as a duty weapon and as personal self defence when it was the only hi-cap 9 around. It will likely be among the last pistols I own. It came to me with Pachs and Ive never put wood on it- the Pachs are way more comfortable and form-fit to the hand, which the woods do not. Toyed with the idea of ivory- which on a new, clean pistol or a classic like the Luger Parabellum look great against the bluing. Stuck with the rubbers as way more useful for my purposes. Like the .45 auto it is carried cocked and locked, a condition that makes me painfully aware it is loaded and ready to go. It shoots well- of course- and Ive made my peace with the miniscule safety. "Someday" I'll install a more useful safety switch.
A long-time shooting buddy carries a 70's era with the adjustable sights. So far Ive not seen the need for them and consider them all too easily banged out of whack- but I suppose one could dial in particular loads. Mostly I fire mil-surp that has come my way over the years. Shoots well enuff for that. Strangely enuff it compares with my Chinese 9mm Tok, which gets a lot of the funky corrosive I used to feed the BHPs...

The adjustable model sights are a might easier to see, especially with my old man's eyes.

I recently bought a HP from Gary Cole (cdisales). An ex-Israeli police pistol, she's a great shooter. I put about 75 trouble-free rounds through it last weekend, with a variety of mags, and have no complaints at all. In fact, an old friend said it looked nicer than some brand new pistols he'd bought. This pistol seems more accurate than my '93 commercial, assembled in Portugal model. Both have fixed sights and both wear the typical late-model black plastic grips, which I have no problem with. That said, I've seen some fine wood and VZ grips that mind their way onto one of these, or maybe I will get another HP to "decorate". That seems like a good enough reason to me.

For Gary Cole...on GB; search 'Browning FN'.....most guns in that category are his. Once there, hit "see sellers other auctions".

So what are those early 50's models going for these days?

I have 38XXX that I am thinking of letting go. Has clam shell holster and two mags that have same serial number as the weapon.

Yes.

IMO, people overpay for old worn-out Hi-Power pistols more than just about any other "cult" handgun out there. The reality is, they are common as dirt, and usually way overpriced for the (poor) condition so many of them are in.

For those who have not perused Gary Cole's offerings....he has the HP's in price categories, some as low as $370. These are usually re-parked over pitting & some have had barrel and/or slide replacements, hence not matching numbers. However, for a decent shooter/truck gun....I'm sure they are fine.

He told me the HP's in the $480 range are all in excellent condition.....some refinished, some original, and usually all matching numbers.

It's all about what you want/need and what you are willing to pay.

Either way...heard nothing but good things about his products & service.
