I have been told by a potential buyer(well actually it would be a trade) that my SIG556 isn't worth anything above $1000 because of this ad.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/SIG-Sauer-SIG-Semiautomatic-Rifles/709982.uts

Thing is,we don't HAVE a Cabelas anywhere near us and I am not sure if this is even a current special.

Anyone know????

IF Cabelas had them in stock, you would think people would be buying them to resell since it is difficult to find one for sale.

This guy also told me his Walmart sold the SIG556,something I haven't seen but maybe they do.I have seen the M400 and the 522 there, but not a 556.

If I didn't have to drive 200 miles to see if it was true I would let you know first hand

Our nearest store is several hundred miles away, until the one in SC opens up.
I emailed customer service and got the following response:
I apologize for the inconvenience, but at this time, we do not have access to the firearm and ammunition inventories in any of our Retail Stores due to the rapid inventory changes we have been experiencing. You can contact the local Retail Stores to check for availability of these items.
Thank you for visiting cabelas.com and come back soon!

So I am guessing no,they don't have them in stock.

Pretty odd that Cabelas would sell a USED SIG556 for more than a new one....

I figured,no way that Cabelas would need to drop the price that much.

Guy is offering me a MAK90 and a Glock 17 Gen4 for my SIG556,as he claims it is only worth $1000 or less.

Funny how that works, his Glock is valued above new price...my gun is way below.

To me, the real question is what does the Sig 556 do that a standard ar15 won't? I wanted one until I handled one in a gunshop. The handguards were so loose they rattled, in fact, the whole thing was so loose it just felt cheaply made. That, and a $1600 price tag, ended my desire to own one.

Has a better gas system???LOL
There does seem to have been something lost when the rifle finally made its way here, can't understand why SIG chose to mess with it,just make it like the original.

About $1,000 is what the classic model goes for during non panic times. Gun prices are almost settled now.

Sig has also announced they will stop making the 556, so with time I suspect prices will increase. Used price before craziness was around 1k (I bought mine for $950). I have not seen a 556 at the Cabelas near me (Dundee MI) in over a year. IMHO, he should throw in som cash with the glock and mak90.

For those who have not fired one, unlike piston ARs this weapon was designed from the ground up as a piston weapon. Think of an AK made by sig. It is a bit front heavy compared to an AR but recoil is less and there is noticeably less muzzle flip. I have given up on ARs after buying my Sig (I used the AR platform during my 15 years in the infantry and liked it). There were some initial quality issues when they started making them in the US, but that is not much of an issue anymore.

Sig has also announced they will stop making the 556,

I have never heard this. Do you have a source or just hearsay?

I do not know what reps people spoke with or why on the Sig Forum thread people have been spreading the story about discontinuing this model.

Today, however, Sig Sauer Customer Service told me they are definitely not discontinuing the SIG 556 rifle. The customer service rep said: "It is one of our biggest sellers".

Good to hear it will still be produced and available. I like mine a lot.

The Sig 550 series is the best rifle ever made, on the planet, IMO. *shrug*
