After years of owning and carrying a Beretta 92 I decided to give it a new home, and I lucked into a trade for an ex-Swiss police Sig P226. The guy who got my Beretta wanted a pistol like his issued M9, only one that wasn't a worn-out piece of crap like his issue weapon. Last week we met up and did the trade, and I'm the happy owner of a very nice P226!

The Facts: The gun was previously owned by and issued to a Gendarme in the French-speaking canton(member state of the federal state of Switzerland) of Vaud. From the date under the grips it looks like it was built in 5/98, has a heavier milled stainless slide, dead night-sights, and minimal holster wear. There is a very light 'Made in Germany PW Arms Redmond WA' stamp on the right side of the slide.

I put 100 rounds through it last weekend and it shoots like it has eyes! After figuring the hold-over it could connect with clay pigeons at 50 yards with relative ease.

SWEET gun.

I've got a .40 226 and a 228 9mm.

I have ALWAYS wanted a Sig 226 that was issued to the swiss. just for the cool factor :)

This one looks like it's spent its entire service life riding around in a holster, with a yearly range qualification thrown in. The frame has shiny spots in the anodizing but nothing through the color, aside from a small spot or two on the very front edge. The breech face is similarly clean, as well.

Same gun a month later...

Carried in a kydex rig by Shadow Holsters, a guy who goes by 'goodmedicine' on AR15.com. I don't always carry the spare mag, but the Sig goes with me any time I leave the house.

I treasure my Sig 220. The "Made in West Germany" on its side make me smile with nostalgia. And it has the sweetest trigger pull ever!

Mine's a great blaster but a bit thick for EDC. The new grips screws are chrome because they're all I could find, and I tore up several of the original ones trying to get them out. Even with the proper gunsmithing screwdriver, I stripped the heads out of two of them..... probably because THESE guys originally installed them!

I picked up a P226 MK25 at the NRA banquet on the 15th of March and have run 500 rds. throught it already. I sent my Taurus PT92 in to get fixed (starting to get ftfs) and my p226 is now MY carry gun. The Taurus will go to the nightstand.

My lil Swiss gal is from Vaud, and as soon as I showed her the pic of your 226 she recognized the 'GV' on the slide right away. While not a firearm lover like her friends over there, she definitely prefers your SIG over my 228.
[Bloody Swiss are patriots to the end. ;) ]

Sweet find!

Yes, very fortunate....

So fortunate, in fact, that a guy here in town made me an offer I couldn't refuse for it, and now I need to find another one.

 Damn! Oh well, good luck finding another. Would've loved to have owned that one.

Not to worry, they turn up on GunsAmerica pretty regularly. A shop out of TN, Robertson Trading Post, has them from time to time.

I found a super-sweet P220R at the fun show today, so I was only Sig-less for a day or two. This one has night-sights, 4 mags(3 8-rounders and 1 7-rounder, all factory stainless), case and all the goodies, even the" Got Sig?" Bumper stickers, for $700. It feels and looks almost brand-new.

Pics tomorrow, I promise!

:uhoh: Whoa?

Man, that was a priceless piece of history/cool. GL finding another.

I love my German P229 in .357 Sig. Too much fun, but I would love a Swiss P226.

That's a bit of a stretch to call it that, but it was a nice gun. They turn up from time to time, and I'm not sentimental about my guns at all, so I'm glad it found a new home.

Here's my new Sig, a P220R. Everything in the pics except for the ammo came with the gun.
