Hmmm,

9.9 kilos is about 22 lbs so its lighter than 27.5 lbs M-240 series MG. The recoil/stabilization mechanism is similar to the Singapore Ultimax-100 5.56 Automatic rifle the Marines were looking at to replace the M-249 SAW. Wonder how it does it the RAM-D department?

Better news is lots of MG-3 spare parts to hit the market in future years.

Isn't this the same gun from like 2009 or 2010?

did you notice the scars on the guys left wrist when he was dipping the barrel? ....yes, I would bet a motorcycle accident was responsible, seen very similar scares on two guys I know from bad road plants.

Wouldn't dipping that barrel in the water warp it? Water cooled barrels had water on them when they begin firing.

As a former company level armorer (not MOS, just a 2 week school) seeing him dip that hot barrel in a stream makes me want to scream.

We had M-60's in our arms room when I was the company armorer. They required a lot of maintenance to keep them 100% but when they ran good, they really kicked ass.

It's nice to see the Germans finally embrace a slower rate of fire on the GPMG. I fired the MG3 and miraculously qualified Gold on the second try. How you can hit anything with the MG3 off the bipod I have no idea. I could easily qualify expert with the M-60 off the bipod and hold it on target in sustained fire. The M-60 was better balanced and lighter than the M-240 IMHO.

I've shot the 60 and the 240 and the 240 ran better and had the adjustable gas plug. The barrel is swap able as well. That's why I can't under stand why that guy just didn't let the barrel air cool while he put the second barrel on? Change it every couple hundred rounds if firing that fast.

The 240 does run better than the 60 and is easier to maintain. The balance of the 60 and controllability was what I liked. Maybe it's because I didn't spend as much time with the 240? Dunno, both really good MG's though.

It's a demonstration?

Likely a demonstration that it could be done without ill results.. regardless of whether or not it should on a regular basis.

I can't understand why that guy just didn't let the barrel air cool while he put the second barrel on?

He only had the one barrel with him that day and was having too much fun to wait on it to air cool.;)

Never thought I'd find something that would make me forget about my 240. Looks like the Germans have done it again.
