Alright, a place for those oldies but goodies!

Thanks Jen!!

Your thoughtfulness has created THE BEST FORUM!

OK! Does anyone know whether or not if the MG13 mag conversion to fit the UAR Hakim is legal?

I made an inquiery to a Hakim message board and was advised that it is. Well, I thought someone here would know for sure.

I still wonder! Is it?

Any advice is appreciated!

Its legal. They run about $30 at the gun shows around here. DeanP had one and can tell you what to do to modify it.

The Hakim is certainly an Assault Weapon as defined by relevant bans. Lessee:

- removable magazine
- bayonet lug
- Flash Hider (well maybe)

That said, it'd like using pre-ban magazines in your post-ban AR. NOT a problem, as they were made well before the ban. You aren'tsubstantially modifying the rifle's already evil features.

I'm told this 'mod' also works on the FN-49.

GunPlumber mentioned it in another SAFN-49 post. I haven't ordered any MG-13 magazines yet to try.

Re the mag conversion - I don't know for sure the legality issue. BUT, I have seen posts on other Boards (from the folks that like to quote the Code of Federal Regulations) that say that converting a mag that holds more than 10 rounds is legal only if the mag still works in the original firearm. If the mag will no longer work in the original firearm, then you have created, in essence, a new post-ban high capacity magazine - a no no.

Like I say, no personal knowledge, but probably worth checking out. If I get a chance, I'll try to find the thread where someone quoted the CFR. One thread that I DO remember, is here: http://www.gunboards.com/forums/UltraBoard.cgi?action=Read&BID=8&TID=2760&SID=985405

Maybe some of the CFR savvy folks will jump on this thread . . .

You will like shooting this gun. Very nice with 8mm. Little recoil and quite accurate. A knock off of the AG42.

I also have the elusive Rashid in my collection. A neat gun in and of itself.

A followup on the legality of modifying existing pre-ban hi-cap magazines to work in another firearm.

Follow this link for an ATF response to that question:

Crapgame, here's the link on how to do the conversion.
http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Gorge/4653/hakim3.htm .

I would need a gun bearer to carry my Hakim if it had anymore rounds in the magazine!
