Just visited the CMP website and found that effective April 1 they will change their grading system and prices. They will now have a service grade TE<5 and rack grade 5<TE<8. Rack grade is cheaper than service but varies based upon maker.

I think it was a good idea. I am glad I got my M-1 with a like new VAR barrel before it went up $25.00

You know the rack grades may be the best buy ever since the TE will still be under the replacement barrel level. Ought to make some really great shooters without the worry of dinging or scratching.
I see it as a vast conspiracy to deprive me of most, if not all, of my money! :D ;)

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Ordering a Rack grade Springfield Danish issue for $325 and converting it to a .308 for a shooter.

I know of at least one Garand collector who, despite all the requests and phone calls, could never get his hands on an IHC. This ought to tickle him to death.

I saw one this past weekend at a smaller show go out the door for $800...it was a nice one too.... :( It would have come home with me if the wife had not threatened me with being deposed to the dog house in the water logged back yard if I brought another Garand in this month.

Yeah I am currently fighting the urge to buy the rest of my yearly allotment from the CMP.

geez - I still have 9 days till I pick up my first Garand, and I'm already plotting how to get involved in the CMP, get the next one, then a receiver, NM upgrades ...
it's more of an addiction than the FAL. Of course, it's easier to get Garands here in the PRK than a Kaliban FAL ... if you're gonna be addicted, might as well have an addiction that you can feed.
