Just got done ordering mine. C&R eligable. remember when SKS's were $69? In a couple years we'll be saying, remember when SKS's were $99?.
I'll report on the condition when i get it. I'm not hoping for anything spectacular. It's scheduled for a refinish anyway.

Regards,
Caspian

Rob,
Do you know anything about the writing on the side?
Seems strange that it has arabic writing if it came from Yugoslavia, is there any way you can get it translated?

Couldn't find your review- so sorry if you covered this in there.

Here ya go, it had been several days since it had been up. Century March special Yugo SKS
The Arabic looking writing kind of suprised me, too. Someone on another board said they were going to print the pic and take it to school and see if anyone could translate, but I haven't heard anything yet and I DO NOT speak or read Arabic, so no luck there. Heck, I don't even speak English very well and I've done that all my life!

I think it was about a week, maybe week and a half. There is NOTHING worse than the wait! Days seem like months!

The arabic markings are interesting. A day or two ago, I was in a Dunham's, and saw what appeared to be a Yugo 48 or 48A Mauser in a display case that had a crescent moon and star logo on the stock. I don't recall if it was a five or six point star, but the marking was similar to the one on the SKS in the photos.

I believe the ethic war in Yugo land involved some Moslems. How was the bore? All the really used Yugos I have seen have really nasty bores.

the bore is a little dark, but most of that may shoot out of it. Rifling is strong.

i just got it and got done cleaning her up. the bore is a little darks, like Robs. overall, for $99 i'm very pleased. now i want to get a second one and try chopping the barrel down to 16" and making a shorty. the possiblities are endless with this bargin rifle.
i think the special is for the month of March. if you're sitting on the fence on this deal, go for it. you won't be sorry.

caspian

Sounds like you got a good one, too. At this price, I think it would be tough to get a bad one though.
I cant wait to get some ammo and try mine out, just cant afford any right now while working on another FAL build!

Ill never deal with Century again because of their shifty business practices (http://www.falfiles.com/cgi-bin/forums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=000419)

Mine came Thursday, took about 10 days. The Stock is cracked on both sides from front to the trigger guard. I drilled the stock and glued wooden pins all along the cracks. The bore has sharp rifling but the bore is kind of ruff. Got it back together and will try it out in the morning.

Century calls today to tell me their specials. Well I order another and some other Russian bolt gun thats supose to be new in wrap for $119. I think its the 7.62 X 54 carbine type. I think the worst thing I've done is getting a C&R.

Give them a call or email them. I emailed them and had a blank application in the mail five days later. The cost is $30.00 for three years.

go to http://www.cruffler.com to the "becoming a cruffler" section, IIRC, there is a link to a downloadable form and instructions for everything. Very helpful site.
Be warned, though, it is the worst $30 you will ever spend! You think FALs are addictive, wait till you can order this stuff through the mail! :D

the arabic writing on the rifle looks like it says:
bissmilla y rahman y rahim.
roughly translated:
in the name of Allah, the most gracious the most beneficient or merciful.
don't ask how i know this because i don't come here to talk religion, just firearms

The Yugoslav SKS (officially termed the Model 59/66 rifle) was manufactured for export and sporting sale by what was called Zavodi Crvena Zastava (Red Flag Works) during the Tito era in Kragujevac, Serbia.

In fact, Uruguay briefly used it as their standard issue military rifle for a time in the late 1960s. A number of these weapons may have been exported to some Mideastern nations as well.

Moreover, during the 1945-91 Yugoslavia, its then-province of Bosnia-Herzegovina had/has a large native Moslem population (mainly Croats and Serbs whose ancestors were forcibly converted to Islam during the long Ottoman Turkish occupation) and so these particular rifles were reportedly issued to and used by Bosnian Yugoslav Army reserve units beginning in the 1970s.

I'll see what more I can find out.
