I contacted the "local gun dealer" here in town. He informed me he would not be involved in getting anything for me from any
but his normal suppliers. Understandable? Maybe. So I went on to explain what I wanted to purchase. It was a total of 5 ,m44 rifles.
The main four ( and an extra russian Laminate) He Stopped me in my tracks. Told me that he would Not order that many firearms for me.If he was to order them it would be 100.00 for the transfer fee but I would have to explain why I wanted 5 of them.
I explained my reasoning. He then Informed me that my carry permit was bogus. This was all done in a very casual manner. No flaired tempers. After speaking to him I left in total disbelief. How does a guy like this stay in business? He at no point suggested anything that he Could do for me.But very explicitely told all that he Wouldnt do.
I then called a friend that I usually use.
got everything handled over the telephone.
( pity he lives so far off) I guess I'll have an excuse to go see him soon ,while waiting for my C&R paperwork to process.
Pardon me while I vent. .
thirty dollars and sign here?

What a looser! Yep...from time to time you'll see posts like yours and you come to the realization that just because some folks are dealers doesn't mean that they know what they're doing, know a lot about thier products, or sometimes even like people who would dare own more than a turkey gun! Sad, but true.
If you've got the 44 bug a C & R would pay for itself in one shot as I'm sure you realise. No reason not to have one.
It took me a year to conclude that it wasn't some evil ATF plot to tag all of us "gun nuts", and over the years not only has it brought the joy of old rifles into my home, but the joy of not having to deal with a$$holes like the one you just described!
Do the paperwork today! Good luck!

Sounds like your FFL may have some "issues" and you may need to find another. However if an FFL told me My gun or carry permit was bogus I would have a serious problem with that. Sounds to me like he is saying he no longer wants to do business with you for some reason and I would want to know why. Some FFLs only do business with a few certian vendors I have been trying to get mine to send his PPW to AIM for a while but he likes doing business with CAI and SOG and one or two others and dosent want his credentials all over the place and most of em do call FFL's to solicit business (telemarketing)and let em know about specials so some try to limit how many vendors they deal with. However some are convinced that more volume brings more scrutiny from the ATF (and it may I dont know) But I have had one FFL tell me that he is reluctant to purchase and have shipped to him more than 5-6 guns every month and that certain activity brings in the inspectors I cant see 4-5 C&R rifles doing that though.
Overall either hes got a case of paranoia or someone has been talking about you to someone else and got some bum info. Agian I think you should find a new one for non C&R stuff.

I called a friend that is an FFL . He lives alittle far from me, and just has some personal tragedy( Lost his wife to cancer)
I was trying to use this "new guy" so as not to burden My regular FFL with things right now.I would trust my reg. FFl with every
firearm I have Ever owned. Great guy. I made a phone call to him after my "run in" . Had everything handled over the phone.Even told me . "Just pay for it after it gets here"
I wont accept that offer, I dont like working off other peoples money, but, It ,none the less ,was a genuine offer.
I guess the "new guy" wont be seeing much of me. Kinda made me feel like a criminal.I'm still trying to figure out how I could be more of a threat to ATF,The City, Or the new dealer buying 5 m-44's than I am with one.
Heck Id do good carrying 5 of them.If I was planning on any type of less than acceptable
activities it sure wouldnt be with Ancient
5 round Bolt guns.
Oop on second thought, Is blowing up dust
on a backstop a less than acceptable activity? Gosh, Maybe the guy was right.
As I stated in my initial post I understood
and accepted his reluctance to deal with "my idea of best vendors for products,I had an FFL all throu the 80s then decided it was too much hassle to mess with all the paper.
Guess Im back to paper it in, paper it out again.

Pretty crappy what he did, probably just highly misinformed, but if by doing that he will cause you to bite the bullet and get your c&r, you will thank him later!

Too bad your FFL is a rat. Sounds like a real difficult guy to do business with. The guys I go through just give me a copy of thier FFL and I do the ordering and have it shipped to them, they handle the paperwork and instant check.

If he doesn't want your business don't give it to him. Take some buddies into his store and let them finger up his new guns. When he finishes his sales pitch say loud enough for him to hear " Oh that's much to expensive, lets go down the street to Billy Bobs it's much cheaper down there". Your dealer will either get the hint or tell you to leave, either way you still have lost nothing.

Absolutely get the C&R if you want 44s. My local dealer has Russian 44s for sale for $99.95  .

J&G has them for $49 :D . Even if you only buy one, you still would save $20.00 over my local dealer. That's a lot of 762x54R

:D

Just remember that a C&R license is not a 'dealer' license per se., so if you are thinking of buying 4 or 5 of these rifles for resale, it might be a violation of the C&R license.
