C&R FFL Questions...

I finally got around to mailing out all of my C&R application paperwork last week. A couple of questions though I was hoping someone here might have answers to.

1. Can firearms only be shipped to the address that is on the C&R FFL? For example, I have an "official address" where all of my mail and bills go, and where my CCW permit and driver's license is issued from. But I like to spend most of my time in the old family summer home about an hour from there. OnceI get the C&R FFL, and mail copies to various dealers, can I have things shipped to the summer home, or does it have to be to the "official address" and then just make sure I'm there to sign for it?

2. Let's say I want to buy a friend one of those $60 M-44's for a birthday of Christmas present. I intend to just give it away with no money changing hands so I'm certainly not trying to turn a profit. Is this sort of thing allowed? Can I use my C&R to buy someone a gift or is this a no-no with the ATF?

Firearms MUST be shipped to the address on the FFL - no ifs, ands, or buts.

Purpose of Collectors (03) FFL is to collect. Not to "engage in the business" nor to purchase for gift purposes.

It is permissable to subsequently dispose of firearms purchased via your C&R FFL - laws are silent on how how many transfers would take you out of the realm of collecting and into the realm of "engaged in the business."

Could you purchase a firearm to enhance your collection and then subsequently decide that it is excess to your collection and transfer out of your Bound Book as a gift (in compliance with applicable state laws) . . .yes - BUT, if your book is ever examined by ATF, it might look a little fishy if you have a number of transfers out of your book soon after coming in and you'll want to have a nice explanation ready for the ATF agent.

Is it likely that you will be inspected by ATF - chances are slim - they have bigger fish to fry and don't spend a lot of time with the C&R folks - but it's always possible!

You will receive a packet of information with your FFL that has all the rules and regulations applicable to the 03 FFL. You'll want to review them carefully. :rolleyes:

Ok, seems clear enough. Just wanted to check on those two points. Thanks for the info. Looks like if I want to ever get someone a firearm as a gift I'll do it through the regular shop/FFL. lol...
