All Goose's posts about the FN-49 prompted me to get back in the safe and get my Egyptian out and take it to the range. Rifle ran great and the 8mm is fun to shoot. When I examined the spent cases, however, I was a little surprised to see that the extractor was actually taking taking a small chip out of the cartridge rims  Is this normal? I don't really care about the brass, I don't reload and surplus is cheap but upon cleaning it seems all those little cartridge chips were in the magazine! Anyone heard of this before?

Have you tried turning the gas down yet? What kind of ejection ya getting - the sub-orbital kind or sorta the dribble out kind!
Plus - are you shooting Turk . . . supposed to be pretty hot and everyone is adjusting the gas with this stuff.
Otherwise, it's not unusual for the extractor to beat up the brass a bit. You could also check out the bevel on the extractor and look for burrs and stone those off if there are any.
Let us know how it turns out.
BTW - Have you already participated in my survey ? :D :D :D
