I'm really considering getting a CZ-52, largely because I'd like to shoot .223 TIMBS. I plan on beginning handloading at some point, and this would probably be the thing that gets me started, since .223 TIMBS factory ammo costs about $32 for a box of 50. Does anybody know where I can find reloading data for this cartridge? Also, does anybody know where I can find a good source of components like Remington .30 accelerator sabots for .223 and 7.62x25 brass?

Sure.

As far as I know .223 TIMBS was developed by two guys (one whose last name is Timbs), as a readily-available substitute for FN's 5.7x28 round that's used in the P90 and Five seveN. It consists of a 7.62x25 brass and a .223 projectile (standard 5.56x45 NATO type), seated in a .30 caliber Remington accelerator sabot. It pushes the projectile at about 2000 fps out of a CZ52. This is too hot for a Tokarev, so you'd have to load it down a bit, if you wanted to use it in a Tokarev.

The basic 7.62 X 25 brass is being made by Starline. Any of the basic reloading places will carry it (Midway, Graf & Sons, etc.). I looked through my reloading catalogs and didn't see the Remington sabots listed anywhere. I know I've seen them for sale before but I don't know where. I've seen them at people's tables at the big Tulsa gun show. I'll keep an eye out when I'm ordering reloading stuff and maybe I'll see some.

If this round really works it would be a much better idea to talk somebody into making a custom chambered .224 barrel. Then you would avoid the whole extra step of putting bullets in a sabot. Save time and money and probably get better results since the sabots never went over all that well since they just didn't work all that well. There are so many spare barrels being made for guns like this that it seems like somebody could turn out a different caliber.

These sound outrageous! If you ever make some extras and want an impartial test, I will test them out in my 52's.
