There are two full-size Enfields I want (plus a couple carbines; but the Carbines I want are Gibbs, and they're all out right now.) I can't decide between a No. 4 Mk. I and an Ishapore IIA No 1 mk. 3. The Ishapore fires .308, which would make it ammo compatible with my FAL, and takes that really cool 17" trench bayonet, but the No. 4 has better sights (the combination peep/ladder sight is really cool) and is a better looking rifle. Decesions decesions...

The No. 4 I was looking at comes from Navy Arms MSD. It's a Savage-manufactured "collector grade" No. 4 for $149, dealer price.

They've been refinished, but I can live with that.

i had a IIa #1 hated it. accuracy was horrible. even when i had it scoped. love the #4 but can't shoot it due to headspace problems .can't wait for the new bolt head. but it was very accurate. it always grouped well. plus i think the #4 just looks cooler. .02

I owned an Ishapore 2A for three years before it was stolen from me in a house break in in 2000.
I liked my Ishie. It was accurate enough.
I still have a piece of 8X11 notebook paper with a hand-drawn bullseye upon which I shot a five round, 2 inch group at 100 yards with that old rifle.---no scope, iron sights only.
I don't figure many FALs do better than that.
Mine was $125 from Navy Arms at the time--one of the "arsenal refinishes" which meant they sprayed a new coat of black spray paint on it, and got much of the cosmoline off the wood.
In fact, I liked that .308 Enfield so much, that I'm looking for another one.

I currently have a No.4 MkI long Branch that has the most beautiful stock. I really like the No4. But then again, I am still looking for a nice No1 MkIII Lithgow to pick up. I had an Ishapore, and it was nice, but couldn't get a good group from it.
It is all in your taste.

I love all my enfields but if I could only have one I'd get the savage! Mine is very accurate even though the crown has been rounded from brits cleaning from the bore end!all my enfields are tack drivers! I shot an Ishapore and it was not accurate at all 6" group at 100yds off a rest. my enfields will touch holes on a good day and no worse than 2" groups on a bad one! with hand loads or the south african 80's surplus that's some great shootin ammo!
Go with the No. 4 MkI Savage, the ones I have seen have me wanting yet another Enfield.
