SOG 1934 Beretta

Got one of these yesterday. It is indeed in excellent condition (unfired if the blue in the bore is any indication). I haven't found too many suspicious signs of "arsenal refinish" like blued over pits, shallow markings, etc. I am puzzled over the bare metal crown on the barrel, the engraved markings on the top of the barrel, the purple (plum?) color of the slide and the "out of synch" lesser condition of the grips (both plastic and the sheet metal grip holders).

Has anyone else gotten one of these? Is yours in similar condition?

I haven't ordered one yet, but I am considering it. I have heard that they are indeed arsenal refinished using a dip-blue method. Supposedly, this doesn't require bead blasting first, which would explain why the markings aren't rounded off.

glad you got a good one-however, from the other c&r bds i frequent your experience is the exception rather than the rule-most appear to be getting pitted rearsenals that are neither new nor excellent. im gonna pass.

Trebor: Hmmm, that would explain the lousy grips... SOG didn't reveal this little detail. Matter of fact, if this is indeed the case their quoted "value from the Standard Catalog of Firearms" in their advertisements is downright fraudulent. I guess "unissued" and "excellent" could be applied to an arsenal refinish but the ethical thing to do would be to say so... Don't think I'll do business with them again.

Gates: Thanks for the info. I have just gotten active on boards recently having returned from years of overseas assignments. I have my C&R but other than here (which I came to because of the FAL), where are other C&R active boards? I checked cruffler.com but it seemed dead.

Well rmdye, I'm glad it shoots good, but if that's one SOG advertised as like new/excellent condition, I'll have to pass.
